Vista will not recognize my iPod

I have an iPod video and my Vista system will not recognize it. I downloaded and installed iTunes 7.5XX, but I still can not get it to recognize the iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, my problem has been the same since I bought a new Vista laptop (running Vista Basic). I have restored my i Pod on my old XP machine and installed the latest i Tunes but the i Pod won't appear or sync at all. The i Pod screen contains the DND message but won't show up in i Tunes. I don't know what else I can do, I have 4000 songs which I can't get into my i Pod so it is redundant as it stands!! Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I think I had the same problem as you guys, Vista wouldn't recognize my ipod but it was seen in device manager as a mass storage device. What happen to me was vista ask me if I wanted to format my ipod so it would work with vista like a dummie I said yes and from that time on it was not seen in my computer and in itunes. I ended up putting it on a new computer, when I installed itunes I plug in my ipod and this time itunes seen it and told me it was corruped, I was able to backup the music and videos I had on it to the new computer then I did a restore on the ipod and now all work good.

Hi!
I'm having the same problem. I installed ALL avaible updates for both, iTunes and Vista but it's still not working!!
When I connect the iPod (Nano 2Gb) to my PC, the computer doesn't reconize it (not even in the system tab as any other device).
USB on this pc works fine with any other usb device, and iPod works on other pc's with Xp.
H E L P !!!

Yep same problem here - iPod nano g1 worked with Vista one day and next day it was no longer recognized.

-.-

EDIT: Thought it was interesting that a ton of people have the same problem since nov. 10th but there has been no sign of any help. After a month you have to wonder if there's anyone on the forum that actually can help?? Probably not.

Ok that didn't work.

Still have Yellow Triangle next to the USB Mass Storage Device entry in the Device Manager under USB Controllers heading.

"Device cannot start" is the actual error although I do get the error:
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" when I plug it into a USB port I haven't plugged it into before.

Vista is so much a pile of stinking crap.

I've got similar issue. Have been using Vista since February '07 with this iPod Nano (the 1st generation). Now I plug it in via USB and it does not show up in Itunes. Ipod says "do not disconnect" and its charging.

This problem is only on my computer. I've connected iPod to another Vista computer, and it shows up in iTunes.

So problem resides on my computer. It may have started after I used my computer to charge a friend's iPod.

I was having the exact same problem with my 30Gig 5G iPod. I tried everything I could find (including 3rd party sync apps... which also didn't recognize it). This is what finally worked, hope it helps:

Uninstalled iTunes...
I downloaded iPod Updater. Installed it. Rebooted...
Connected iPod with USB cable. Restored my settings with iPod updater.
Without ever unplugging or ejecting iPod, I installed the latest itunes.
Opened iTunes and there was my iPod!

Best of luck...

When I connect my Ipod(S) windows and Itunes do not recognise either, even when the updated drivers are downloaded, I have reset both my IPODs, used different USB ports, looked in device manager, authorized the new build PC and still nothing, also, I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Vista Home Premium and downloaded the latest Itunes version and yet when I boot up Itunes I get a message 'Itunes did not download correctly, you are not able to burn CDs or DVDs' reintsall. I have done, nothing happens. I dont know whether this has anything to with the itunes or windows not recognising the ipod

Can anybody help. two machines no music.

Vista will not recognize my iPod
