How do I stop CD's disappearing when i am trying to import

When I try to import a CD into iTunes

1 the CD shows up on the desktop as audio CD
2 iTunes goes off and queries Gracenote and downloads the track details which flash up in iTunes
3 suddenly the disk disappears from the desktop and cannot be seen as mounted in either Finder or iTunes so I can't get it out
4 I have to restart OSX and then the CD reappears and can be successfully dragged into iTunes but this is all rather tedious

Is this a Leopard or new iTunes problem - or something else

Imac, Mac OS X (10.5)

I've been having this same problem; the disc shows up in Finder, in iTunes and in the HD device list for a second or two and then just disappears. I haven't needed to restart OSX, though - I can remove the CD by holding down the eject key on my keyboard. Generally, when I insert the CD a second time, it will "hold" in all the right places without disappearing.

I'm running iTunes 7.5 and have Leopard installed.

Any idea what's going on?

I want to put in my 2 cents as well in hopes that Apple will start to notice this based on the number of people that are posting the problem. I am having the same problem, which I will describe as well as to what I have seen. I have iTunes open already and insert an audio CD. It appears briefly on the desktop as "Audio CD" and then iTunes accesses information on the CD from the web. It then looses the information and the disk and the CD unmounts completely in the finder. I am certain of the timing, as one CD I inserted had multiple different possible matches found and when I chose one, it unmounted as soon as I chose the right item from the the dialog box. It happens sporadically with no pattern that I can see. Some disks work and others do not. I have been keeping Disk Utility open and when it happens, I just click on the CD in there and click on "Mount Disk" and then iTunes proceeds to import it just fine and then ejects it, as I have set the options. It started to happen after I upgraded to Leopard and also iTunes 7.5. I don't think I tried to import anything between doing those 2 updates.

If you're hoping that Apple will read this and solve the problem, it's not likely. These are user-to-user forums...Apple employees do not read these discussions on a regular basis, though they sometimes do. If you want Apple to be aware of the problem, you should send them an e-mail through their Feedback channel. (Just Google Apple feedback and you should find it.)

Still happens to me and I have latest Leopard. In my case the mounted audio disk is showing when the iTunes dialog pops up for "do you want to import this disk" but disappears immediately when I answer yes, and at that time is gone from finder as well. I have been ejecting using disk utility, and always seems to work second time. When importing a stack of cds, I seem to have to insert every cd twice, very annoying.
