I cn go to about any website but google I have a problem. When ever I search google I can never get to it. It wont load. No matter how many times I try it just wont load. Can you help.
I have content barrier x4 but google isnt blocked.
I have an iMac as well with content barrier x4 and google works???
MacBook Intel 2 Core Duo 2GHz 2GB RAM,
Mac OS X (10.5)
Agreed... uninstall or disable Content Barrier and see if the problem persists. I played with CB just before the x4 days, and had constant problems whenever there was an OS X update. It seemed to take Intego weeks or months to get things ready for the new version of the OS... (even minor point or security updates.)
Indicentally, I once played with Windows Live One Care when it was first released (don't flame... I had to protect the BootCamp side of my system when XP was running.) Through various levels of MicroSlop tech support, I could never access Google with One Care installed. Google has something going on that "content blocking" software just doesn't like under the correct set of circumstances....
I have same problem with my new 2008 iMac running Leopard 10.5.1. Can't load google, google.ca. Don't think Content Barrier is installed. (I couldn't find it.) ANY SUGGESTIONS? (I obviously have read through the strand). I need this for my HS biology teaching, esp. Google images. ednalyn
Same problem here. Can't load any page that has a reference to google.com, that includes all the google pages plus any page that has google analytics links etc.
I have a wireless subnet off the main wired network at home. Everything is fine on the wired LAN but nothing google loads on the wireless network.
The wireless subnet is an Ad-Hoc Airport Network off a machine running MacOSX Server 10.5.2. Everything else is fine, DNS is fine, all other networking works.
Same here. Can't connect to any google site, and also any Yahoo site in the last 24 hours - which is a real pain cos I can't check my email. Worked absolutely fine until then.
I've tried on Firefox and Safari (plus firefox and explorer while running Windows with VM fusion). All say they can't connect to the servers. Nothing seems to work - new user account, disabling firewall, plugging into modem by cable, fiddling with the network preferences, updating software, trashing preferences, rebooting, clearing caches - nada results. It's not the firewall, it's not Airport - what on earth is it??
My Dad's PC on the same network will bring everything up fine, so it's definitely just my mac that's got the problem.
Does anybody have the answer to this please?? I've only just changed over from a PC in the last month - this is just infuriating and affecting my work.
Thanks
P.S. Also, about 4 days ago my mac msn messenger suddenly refused to connect, and continued to refuse right up to last night when everything else started acting up. Obviously a sign of things to come!
Interesting you can't get Yahoo to work, it works fine for me (Aus and US). I was thinking it was (maybe) something Google was doing different (or more strictly correct than other sites).
Thanks for the suggestion Semicolons, but no, no Parental Controls are not on for me (and as well, Parent Controls works the other way, you need to allow sites rather than deny them, at least that is how it worked in Tiger). These accounts are all admin.
Aha! Success! I found out what was wrong - I had uninstalled (or thought I had) peer guardian for mac some time ago. I just found several things on the comp which it had left behind. I deleted them, and lo and behold - yahoo! And Google! It's a miracle! Still have no idea why these things spontaneously decided to leap to life and cause trouble after weeks of sitting dormant, but I'm too happy at the moment to care!
Ashley - it might be worth checking if you have anything sitting in your applications folder (or anywhere else for that matter) that you don't know about or thought you'd uninstalled completely, like wily little peer guardian.
Good Luck!
