I, two weeks ago i bought an Imac Alu 20' and when i use the widget Istat Pro it gives me a temperature of around 55-60 Cº in my airport card. Is this normal?
Hi Miniyo: I have the same iMac as yours and my temperature is at 56C. It seems to be a common temperature for most internal components of these computers.
hmz... ignoring what is happening inside your mac is not a solution...
my airport card is at 66 C now... power supply is at 71 C, HDD at 58 C...
actualy, the only thing is not at 50+ is the optical drive... AND I DO NOT DO NOTHING NOW!
I just read this forum... i realy start to think there is a problem with this...
The point is that Apple does not publish temperature ranges and there are literally hundreds of posts like this where the poster thinks some temperature or another is too high with absolutely no basis in fact for wondering or worrying.
You have to think Apple knows a thing or two about hardware and how hot they can or should get and how to cool them and if it is an issue.
You think there is a problem but with no evidence and nothing you can do. I suppose you can buy a fan and blow air over it or something but really give Apple at least some credit for reviewing this already when they invented it.
If that's the HD Bay temp, it's too hot. Most hard drives are spec'd for
maximum ambient temperatures of 50°C to 60°C. I believe Seagate
and Western Digital know a
little more 'bout that subject than Apple.
My white C2D's temps aren't nearly as high as yours. Have you tried
to cool things off with something like smcFanControl?
Yes, i use that software some times when i play WoW...
But i try to see if this temperatures are normal for all iMacs 7.1...
Anyway... if Apple will think on this as a problem probably they will release an update to modify the fan speeds to a higher value...

Why would you believe this temperature is not normal? Is your Mac not functioning properly? Is their some basis in fact that leads you to believe that this temperature is too high? In my opinion, worrying, measuring, or even caring about the temperature of your computer is a complete waste of time unless you are having some sort of problem with your hardware.
I have to disagree with you. Anyone that has built their own PC knows that the largest threat to any computer is heat. Yes it's true that when buying a pre-manufactured system like from Apple one should not have to worry about that. However the reality is everyone should be aware of it. For instance when was the last time a Macbook Pro user didn't have to worry about leaving their computer laying flat on their bed. Or whens the last time a Mac Pro user didn't have to worry about blocking the fan holes on the back of their machine? I think it's being a responsible user to ask if their machine is running too hot or not and what they can do to make sure their machine stays running cool.
P.S. Looby, I got SMCFanControl running and I love it. You are my hero.
I've been having wireless network problems since getting my new iMac, I did not have the same problems with my eMac. I installed iStats pro and I also have readings from iStats pro.
60' C just seems to be too hot, esp when other readings are high 30's-40's
