Wireless Keyboard keeps losing connection, anybody else?

Hello all.

In the last several days my wireless keyboard (aluminum) keeps dropping it's connection. I can understand if there's a power-down-if-not-used-function built in. But this is happening while I am typing, or if I stop using it for, say, 30 seconds, e.g., while searching this forum for a similar post, the "lost connection" window popped up three times.

It's NOT the batteries. I used to use the widget "Mighty Monitor" but I found that it was not giving the same information as the Sys Prefs keyboard and mouse battery status. My sys prefs say that both keyboard and mouse still have 75% full batteries.

It's NOT the distance, the keyboard is 18" from the Mac.

It's NOT other bluetooth devices...I don't have any, except my Blackberry, and BT is turned off.

I have just installed the latest updates, including one for the Aluminum iMAC. Could this be the problem?

Anybody????

All the best,

Steve

After a flawless week's use, I started intermittently losing connection to the mouse. Batteries measured at 1.46 volts, no load. I replaced them with a fresh set, and haven't had a problem since. I plan on trying Eneloop rechargeable batteries: New type of NIMH cells that hold a charge much longer than regular types, and like all NIMH cells, they should be much better than alkaline at maintaining a steady voltage.

Well it looks like the 10.5.2 update did sod all to fix this issue, so in keeping with another thread on this topic, it would seem that the internal bluetooth module is simply not up to the job. I'm disappointed with this on a large scale. I use my mac at least 10 hours a day and I am now contemplating going back to using my Wired Pro Keyboard.

Please Apple sort something out, do a recall or something. Whats the point selling products that don't do their job?

I don't know if this will help any of you but after a good long conversation with Apple Support they are sending out a new wireless keyboard for me to test and see if the same issues occur. I have got fed up with the disconnecting so I have reverted back to my old Pro Wireless Keyboard, and so far, I haven't had a single disconnection problem in the last 3 days.

This is seriously pointing towards faulty bluetooth in the keyboards but we shall see

Hi Everyone, I'm back.

Well Apple kindly had delivered a new wireless keyboard on Monday and since I have had it on I've not had a single disconnection (please don't happen now i have said that).

So if it carries on like this it would seem that perhaps its the bluetooth module in the keyboard itself on the early versions.

Has anyone bought one recently and having these problems?

Just received my new iMac with both Wireless Mouse and Keyboard. I'm experiencing all of the same issues that everyone else has described above.

I've noticed that this occurs when I have heavy data traffic going back between my iMac and other computers on the network. For example, when I have large files syncing from my iMac to my Apple TV is when it goes bad.

Is it possible that both the mouse and the keyboard have bad bluetooth. I'm going to switch my Airport Extreme from 802.11n (b/g compatible) to 802.11n(5mhz) and see if this might be an interference thing?

It looks like the last reply to this was about a week ago, so I am curious to see if the Keyboard update that same out last week fixed the issue for anyone. It did not for me.

I never started having the problem until last week when the update came out. I have a 24" iMac I have had since August 07. I have the wireless mouse/keyboard that I bought in October/November 07. I upgraded to Leopard in Jan 08. I never had issues before.

The keyboard update came out last week and I installed without hesitation. Now I am experiencing the exact same problems everyone in this thread is seeing. The keyboard loses connection, every 10 minutes now. And the mouse starts running slow and continues to for 15-30 seconds. I find if I turn the mouse off and back on it runs fine again for 10-15 minutes. I have changed out the batteries and get full power on both. I have re-paired both and the mouse seems like it is a little better, but the keyboard is still happening every 5 minutes.

So, to my original question, has anyone solved this or did the keyboard update help/hurt? Like I said, I have had the keyboard/mouse now for 6 months and never had the problem until now.

I have had this issue for the past couple of months.

I have been on the phone with Apple a couple of times and no one seems to be able to help.

I am seeing that every time this begins to happen my typing on my screen starts to get really sluggish is the best way to describe it.

I just did the update and this is still haappening. I am really gettinng frustrated with this and it is actually happening while I am typing in this response.

ARRRRRGHHHH! <--- that was me typing that.

anyone please help 😟

OK. I had replaced my batteries before, but the status bar was still showing 75% on both Keyboard and Mouse. Last night, I took some rechargeable batteries and charged them full for about 8 hours. Then tried them and so far the problem has gone away. The status bar is reporting 100% on both. But admittedly, I only used the computer for about an hour last night, so it remains to be seen whether this fixes anything.

I see some mixed responses in this thread but I think a lot of people were in the same boat as me where they assumed 75% would be good enough. Has anyone else tried fresh batteries that show 100% and are still getting the issue?
