Windows Media Player on Mac OS X Tiger

I recently downloaded Windows Media Player onto my Macbook in hopes of being able to upload music from my Sandisk Sansa Mp3 player to my harddrive, but the program only plays video files, and doesn't even recognize that something is attached when I plug the Sanza into one of the USB ports. Is there a specific format of Windows Media Player that I should download, or is the effort moot?

Windows Media Player has been disfunctional for several years now. It is not supported by MS. For video get Flip4Mac and it will play .wmv files in QuickTime. Contact the folks at Sandisk to help you get the files from their player onto your hard drive. What happens when you connect the player to your Mac?

I can't remember where I read it but what I do remember is that SanDisk and Microsoft spent some time and effort to make it such that Macs could not use this device.

Other device makers are doing similar things. My newer Canon camera is usb but does not appear on the desktop when plugged into the usb port. Instead it boots up a Canon program that allows you to download images but also prompts you to print using a Canon printer. I can format the sd card in a generic windows format but the camera does not like it. If I fiddle with it long enough it will work and then appear on the desktop but it makes me mad. It seems that many device makers are going in this direction.

Enough of my rant, check out this link to see if it helps. I use Ipods so I can't vouch for the quality of the program but it's worth a shot.

Nothing. When I plug it into the USB, it ignores it. I was at least expecting an indication that something was attached but couldn't be opened or supported by the Mac OS, but nada.

That's what I said. I think that the drive is not following the standard protocol for formating or for mounting. If it does not follow the standards then it won't mount.

Did you take a look at the link I posted?
