QT 7.3: Horizontal scrolling on trackpad no longer controls volume

In previous versions of QuickTime, a horizontal scroll action on a MacBook Pro trackpad would adjust QuickTime's volume control, while a vertical action would move forwards/backwards through time. In QuickTime 7.3.0, BOTH vertical and horizontal scrolling controls time.

Are other people observing this? Was this an intentional change, or a bug that will be fixed? I really liked the old behaviour, and the loss of functionality is annoying.

Does anyone know if there's a hidden pref that could reenable the old functionality?

Thanks. I hadn't noticed that. It doesn't work in full screen though: In full screen, any scrolling anywhere (including the volume part of the floating controls) controls time.

For a window the current behaviour seems to be:

-any scrolling over the volume slider controls volume.
-any scrolling over the time bar controls time
-any scrolling over the video controls time

I still don't understand why they removed the distinction between vertical scrolling and horizontal scrolling.

I also would like to comment on this problem. It's really uncomfortable to change the volume in the new version of Quicktime. Not only "the-two-fingers-on-the-touchpad-left-right" way is not working any more and you actually have to move the cursor over the volume, but even when you try to move the pointer of the volume bar to adjust it works not so well as it used to (especially in the full-screen where you cannot use touchpad at all for adjusting the volume). This is a real indication of the decrease in the usability of the program (which has never been a common thing around Apple's products). So I do hope that this information will help the developers team to eliminate this issue from the next version of Quicktime.

I have to agree. The scrolling feature - not only the advantage of scrolling sideways on the touchpad to toggle the volume - but to be able to adjust the volume in fullscreen through scrolling was the reason i rather converted a video to quicktime instead of playing it with a third party program.

Why was this feature stripped from the 10.5 version? I did not pay for a downgrade, did i?
