I can't seem to figure out how to list the metric for a given interface in OSX 10.5. The problem I have is that the airport connection is always taking precedence even when I'm plugged into a wired LAN and it's driving me crazy. In 10.4, the system would always favor the fastest connection, which is usually always wired. I loved that it did this, as Windows XP does not do this well. In 10.5, my MacBook Pro 2.33 acting like XP does and I would like it to auto detect and use the fastest speed. When I use route monitor, I can see the changes to the route table when I connect and disconnect different interfaces. I know you can change the metric using ifconfig metric, but how do I list it?
At the bottom of the Network Preferences window there is a small circular gear-like icon that is a drop down menu. You can access the service order by clicking on the icon. Move the preferred service to the top of the list. You need to apply the change.

In Tiger, the precedence was determined by dragging the Proper Interface to the top of Network Port Configurations. They've eliminated that in Leopard, but it exists in another place... about to boot back into Leopard since my real work is done, but have no Network/Internet in Leopard, so might be awhile before I can tell you exactly where it is now.
