sticky key

While I wait until I can get to some compressed air, jsut want to check: do keys on MBP snap off & back on easily, or is it a one-way-trip where removing a key breaks something?

I have something stuck under my R key and it's eally annoying.

Compressed air is the only thing I know, I'm not so sure about the keys.

On a somewhat related note, I have small particles of something in the holes in the speaker on the side of my keyboards, and when the light hits it just right, it looks weird. It's too small and deep for compressed air, the holes are too small for any sort of tweezer, and turning the computer upside down and gently tapping on the bottom didn't do anything.

I actually took a vacuum cleaner hose and stuck it on the speaker, and it still didn't do anything. Ideas?

Being incredibly gifted, I managed to spill about a half a can of coke all over my mac book pro keyboard. I was able to clean it all up by pulling up the keys and cleaning underneath with alcohol.

To pull the keys up:
The keys are hinged at the top right and left corners. I gently pulled up on the keys from the top and bottom, and slid something flat (i used a butter knife, then a watch screwdriver) under the top side portion of the key, pushing the plastic hinge in, unhinging it from the keyboard. Once unhinged on one side, the key will easily slid out of place. Key replacement is another problem all together. It is done in reverse fashion but I found it to be much more painful and time consuming.

I'm grateful that the stickiness problem is solved, however, I think I'd rather not be a slob next time. Hope this helps.

Thought I might add, there are variations in keys... hinges are on the top and bottom left hand side for function keys, and caps lock, apple, shift and tab are slightly different, but nothing too difficult.

When putting keys back on, carefully remove the plastic piece from the keys (one end snaps, the other slides in sideways), and attach to the keyboard. Now you can slide one end of the key in and snap it into place. (for most keys, slide bottom down, and top in)
