iPod Nano not turning on or charging.

Hi,
I have a first generation iPod Nano. I ran the battery flat the other day listening to it in class. When I got home I attached it to my coomputer to charge and nothing happened. The iPod's screen stayed blank and wouldn't charge or turn on at all. I thought it might be my cable so I put it on my dock/charger/stereo...once again NOTHING. Could anybody help please. I've left it on the charger for 24 hours and nothin changed.
Thank......Dvlboy

Hey all...
just to let you know my iPod is fixed now. I took pkkrusty's advice and gave it to my mate to put on his wall charger. He said he would try getting into apple diagnostics to fix it.

I got a phone call this afternoon just as i was looking at this page: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1110715&tstart=75

He'd fixed it and he did it the same way the last (i think) post on that page says to.

Thanx for all your help and hope u solve your problems.

I have the same problem with my second gen Nano. I believe it's a battery problem, perhaps it doesn't even have enough juice to tell the computer it's there to start charging. Do you have a wall socket charger that you could use (as opposed to computer powered USB)? I recall reading somewhere that is how you kick start it. I don't have one, but will try to find one to borrow.

Hi, I had the same problem with my iPod Nano 3rd generation.

Here is my solution: connect it to computer, hold SELECT and MENU button until you here the sound on your computer, than leave it for couple of hours to charge (it won't show that it is charging) and than when you disconnect it, restart it again by pressing the SELECT and MENU button for few seconds, and it should work.

It worked 4 me. Good luck 🙂

I tried the wall wart option and it didn't work. I was able to get it to turn on for about 20 seconds recently and got some more info on the screw-up sequence. The Apple logo appears, then changes to the Do Not Disconnect screen and the computer recognizes it. In the the latest instance, it froze about 5 seconds after that. The screen slowly faded out with a few horizontal lines. I tried the reset combo after that and heard a faint 'click' from the built-in speaker after 6 seconds, but aside from that, nothing. I'm taking it to the Apple store in a week. Disappointing.
