Adobe InDesign 4.0.5 does no longer start up (using Mac OS X 10.4.10)

Hello,

I have made a clean Mac OS X 10.4.10 installation a couple of days ago and installed Adobe Creative Suite CS2 (including updaters) on my G5 and my PowerBook G4.

Everything worked fine so far.

The only problem is, that since today Adobe InDesign 4.0.5 does no longer launch.

The Adobe InDesign splash screen appears and the Apple color ball keeps spinning.
The InDesign splash screen indicates the following info:

"Initialising the SING gaiji system ..."

If I restart my computer, I am able to launch InDesign only for a single time. If I quit the application and launch InDesign again, the InDesign splash screen appears again with the color spinball.

The same phenomenon occurs on my PowerBook G4.

1. InDesign launches ...
2. "Initialising the SING gaiji system ..." appears on the splash screen
3. Apple color ball keeps spinning

4. --> Need to force quit

Has anyone made similar experiences? What do I need to do to solve this issue?
Restarting my computer every time I need to work with Adobe InDesign is not a solution.

Hello,

as far as I have noticed, all other apps from the Adobe Creative Suite CS2 package are working properly. I am able to quit and re-launch all CS2 applications except InDesign.

I have also tested InDesign 4.0.5 by using my admin account under Mac OS X 10.4.10.

Same problem here. I can launch InDesign only once (after restart) and it hangs on the second launch. The Finder says the application is no longer responding.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hello Kurt Lang,

thank you so much for pointing me to the url:

Solution 1. worked fine for me. I have made a restart after changing the permissions via the Finder.

Could you explain me, how it comes that permissions of the SING folder change from one day to the other?

For sure, I haven't made any changes to this folder.

Is this a security related issue?

No clue. It shouldn't of course, but computers sometimes do weird things. 🙂

I doubt it. Sometimes applying an update, even one unrelated to the application in question can cause a change where it shouldn't. Usually because the OS is already in slight need of maintenance. The update just brings the problem to the surface.

Dear Kurt Lang,

thank you for answering.

The problem occured a couple of days after I have made a clean and fresh Mac OS X 10.4.10 installation. I have installed a clean Mac OS X system in order to use a standard user account for my daily workflow. Furthermore, I did work with InDesign just the day before. And the app worked without any problems.

Hm, well, I guess I have to live with that answer.

This said the permissions for the SING folder changed by itself. I can't remember that I have done any major software installations that day.
