IPod will not sync

I have a 40GB IPod 2004 model. I have the latest Itunes software loaded and it is saying Ipod is running the latest software. Both windows and Itunes recognise my Ipod and my Ipod starts syncing automatically. After about 200 songs it stops and says Ipod cannot be syncd as required folder could not be found. Message does not specify what folder. I have reset the Ipod, tried restore, uninstalled and then reinstalled both the Ipod and Itunes - but no luck. Any ideas out there - couldn't find anything relevant on quick search of forum.

Thanks

We have 4 ipods, 1 new 80gig class, 2 5th gen video and 1 nano, all working fine till saturday. When pod plugged in itunes will not load, pod is not recognised by windows neither does it show in itunes. I have spent two days trying every this website has to offer to no avail, infact windows tells me to replace devices, all 4 pods are under a year old and our new classic has yet to have anything put on it! (This was my sons 18th birthday present so you can imagine how disappointed we are.
We are really unimpressed!!!!!!!
Can anyone help?

Yup, Same problem with my girlfriend's 4th gen 20GB iPod.

She gets the message cannot sync because a "folder is missing".

She's only able to sync about 12 songs (out of 2600+) before the sync stops with the above message.

Any ideas what this missing file/folder is??

Any help would be great. BTW she's using a PC running Windows XP.

pods are fine, computer is fine too, had it checked! tried swapping cables and usb still operates with camera etc. talked at length with support, no help there in fact all we managed was to get talked into buying extended warranty for 3 of the pods. Mircosoft have advised that many are experiencing problems and its in the itunes upgrade............
just to test we have an oldish computer and pods worked fine, downloaded upgrade and hey presto then they didn't........apple still no help!

Someone on another thread suggested using pods for target practice! Do apple ever read these messages, do they know how unhappy we all are!

It's a sad day when your 6730 songs cannot be installed onto a very cool i-Pod that should have no problems holding 20,000 tunes. Say it can't sync, file seems to be missing. Tried everything, to no avail. I am really ****** off. My day was fine about 2 hours ago. Going on a long flight in a few days with crappy movies and no i-Pod. Does apple really need more $$ for me to go and purchase another one? I'm rather perplexed on this one. Do any tech persons check any of these forums to offer some insight as to what the heck is going on? It seems not. Someone please get me Steve Jobs on the line!

I think I have found out what was causing the sync to fail showing the "cannot find folder/file" message (at least on this iPod).

The iPod had 2700+ to sync and I think the problem was the fact the the battery died during the syncing process. I tried this twice and each time the iPod appeared to sync approx 1500 songs before getting the "missing folder" message and then I noticed the battery was dead. Looking at the iPod, it had only copied about 11 songs over.

I've now managed to sync the full 2700+ songs by syncing songs in batches (rather than trying to sync all the 2700+ in one go) and then re-charging the battery fully before syncing the next batch of songs.

Now that the complete library of songs is on the iPod, subsequent syncs will be much shorter and won't strain the battery.

So, if you're having this problem try doing the sync in batches of songs and re-charge the battery in between syncing...

The iPod in question is a 4th Gen 20GB iPod still using the original battery,

Hope this helps!!
