Stuck on "Preparing iPhone for Software update..." 1.1.2

I just launched iTunes, noticed a 1.1.2 update for iPhone, clicked download and install automatically, and now I seem to be stuck on the ""Preparing iPhone for Software update..." dialog box. On my iPhone itself there is just a white apple and the rotating circle of grey hash-marks. Its been about 20 minutes.

anyone else experienced a delay this long?
any thoughts on what would happen if I just pulled the cable and tried a different port? (I am thinking this might be related to the fact that I have the iPhone plugged into a USB hub).

(and in case anyone wonders, no my iPhone is not modified/cracked/unlocked in any way. its just a normal iPhone upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2)

I had similar problem. It seemed to take a long time. Then when I thought it was finished, I got a screen that had iTunes icon, cable and slider that said in foreign language "For emergency". I tried sliding it and only got the dialing keypad.

I thought my phone was toast, but I held down the sleep and home button for about 10 secs and it rebooted fine, with message it was activating phone. Didn't take long and now up and running.

But each time I sync I get weird messages, "timeout ... unable to sync" or with 1.1.1 I completely had to restore my phone. I think I have narrowed down some problems having my isight camera plugged in on my G4 that seems to cause a problem with regular syncing. When I unplug the isight camera the sync goes okay.

Well, I just gave up waiting after an hour and yanked the USB cable. I probably should have just waited it out.

When I plugged the phone directly into one of my Mac's USB ports (instead of through a HUB), I got that message that the phone needed to be restored. The "preparation" stage took about 20 minutes, but just as I was starting to worry, the process kicked in. I am back up and running with 1.1.2.

All in all, it was fairly painless, but not as smooth as I would have liked.
