itunes not conecting update server

i went onto Itunes to update my iphone and recieved this statement:

Itunes could not contact the iphone software update server because you are not connected to the internet.

However, I am connected to the internet. all other internet on my pc is working including the itunes store which i can access thru itunes.
Anyone know why I am having this issue and how to resolve it? I closed and reopened Itunes several times and still have the issue. I guess I will try to re-boot and try again.
