How do I reinstall Safari for 10.5?

My safari on one of my iMacs will not autofill passwords. However, it works on all my other computers, so Im trying to reinstall safari on this one to see if that fixes the problem.

3 Intel C2Ds, 2 G5s and a G4, Mac OS X (10.5)

Hi

You would need to extract Safari via the DVD Installer. Have a look at this Apple article for installing other software, including Safari, from the Tiger DVD - see the section titled More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4. While the article seems specific to Tiger, it also applies to Leopard.

Move to the trash the Safari.app found in your Applications Folder.

As a precaution, prior to reinstalling Safari, move your Safari folder, found via the Finder in your Home Folder>Library to the Desktop. It has your bookmarks, history etc. Once the reinstall is completed, move the folder back to its original location writing over the newly created folder.

Install Safari per above. Once the install is complete, "Repair Permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when you are finished.

Leopard - having strange pref. problems with Safari 3.0.4. After reading the *Apple Support* article referenced in this thread (for Tiger) I assumed that I could do the same for Leopard - reinstall Safari.

So I dragged Safari to the trash. WRONG! ...painful mistake ... Apple Support says I have to reinstall Leopard to get Safari back!

I've been on Macs for a little less than two years - so I'm still learning. But reinstall the OS to get the browser back!?! You got to be kidding.

Is there no other way?

Actually, ...I found a thread over on the macfixit forums and you can easily add Safari back by installing the Leopard disk and there's a option to install additional pkgs. It's all menu drive - works like a charm.

So I have Safari installed again - without having to reload the OS. Shocking that the Apple Support person was not aware of this. Still having preferences issues ...but I can live with that.
