Mac blows the fuse in the plug everytime I power on

My Power Mac G4 blows the fuse in the plug whenever I press the power button, also there is a flash at the power connection to the Mac.

Is this totally dead or is there anything that can be done (without spending much)

it is just a spare Mac but would be handy to have it working again

I've got a few possible fixes:
1) Are you replacing it with the correct fuse? If you use a fuse with too low a rating it will blow.
2) There should be a small red switch on the back of the power supply, near the power cord outlet. Make sure that this switch is set to the voltage wherever you live (U.S. is 115, Europe is 250, beyond that I don't know).
3) Try using a different power cord. There might be a short inside the cord (that would not be visible), which might cause the flash and blow the fuse.

If none of these do anything, you can also just buy a new power supply and install it yourself. Power supplies are fairly standard, so you should be good no matter what you get. Installing it may be a pain, but if you have the right screw drivers you should be OK. The side panel of the computer will open if you pull out on the plastic ring thingy on the right side panel of the computer.
