DVI/vga connection issues

Ok, so I've been looking around for a while for a way to connect my Xbox 360 to the imac I shall be recieving very quite soon. I found the elgato eyetv hybrid, but this doesnt support 60hz games, which pretty much all 360 games are. (If there is a way to drop them to 50hz, that would help a lot too! It's PAL btw if that helps)

But what I've found, is a VGA cable you connect from the xbox to a computer monitor. If I got a dvi-vga adaptor, could I therefore run it? (If iMacs have dvi output, I would have to buy an adaptor with a female dvi end yes?) If anyone has done this or knows how to do it, advice would be much appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

The Mini DVI port is and output port and can only be used for connecting a second display, TV or project. It does not allow you to input video into the iMac.

I can't offer any solution I'm afraid.

OK second option, how about using the xbox vga cables with a vga to usb adaptor? Or even running a set top box or something and the xbox through that into the imac? anyone tried either?

Isn't that what the EyeTV is doing for you? Have you actually tried the EyeTV?

unfortunately the main issue I have with buying an eyetv is that it doesnt support 60hz games, which pretty much all PAL 360 games run at. Very few tv tuners support it actually, so thats why I was wondering if the whole usb/vga adapter connected to the microsoft xbox 360 vga cable would work.

Here are some Video to Firewire convertors but for that price you can nearly buy a separate panel 😟

Hmm yeah, they are quite expensive.

I was just reading a tutorial from someone who recorded 360 gameplay on his mac, and apparently has been able to play gears of war which is 60hz with no problems using the eyetv hybrid. Has anyone used 60hz games and actually had no problems with it? If not, that firewire box is looking tempting...
