I've had multiple issues with my 80 gig. I'm actually rather irritated. I don't know why, but videos stop and go back to the listing in the middle of a show, and for a while there, some of my songs wouldn't play on my ipod...then I restored it and now basically nothing will sync onto it. I'm happy with it when it's not malfunctioning though...=P.

I've had few problems with my 80Gig iPod until yesterday. I had over 35 gigabytes of audio and video on it, including entire seasons of the TV show 24 and several full length movies. I also had quite a few audio books and over 50 CD's worth of music.
Yesterday, November 14, 2007, I received a message that an update to the iPod software was available, so I clicked on it to go ahead and update it. That was the beginning of my problem. Ever since then, my iPod has been empty of all audio and video. The iTunes graphic interface indicated that it was synching ok and all the data was going on to the iPod, but it wasn't.
I posted the details on another thread of all the steps I took to try to solve the problem, but so far nothing has worked.
I suspect that the latest update software that I just installed has a flaw in it (version 1.2.2). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to re-install an earlier version.
I wish there was an easy way to contact Apple with a problem like this. I purchased a two-year warranty extension, but I have not been able to find an e-mail address to request service through. There is a phone number, but unfortunately I will not have time to call before the weekend.

I just recently got an 80gb Classic and I have to say that I have had NO problems with it...I am running iTunes Version 7.4.2 and iPOD Firmware 1.0.1 on an iMac (non Intel) and Tiger OS-X. I haven't upgraded either of them to the newer firmwares because of all the problems that I've been reading about here. So far so good...(fingers crossed)

I have had BIG problems with my 160 GB classic!!! I have about 8,500 songs and hundreds will not play on the new classic. They skip to the next track playing only a few seconds of the song. All my songs work on my old 60 GB ipod, as well as another mp3 player I own. I tried everything to fix the problem, starting with reimporting all songs to itunes, resetting the ipod, reformatting it, creating a new user account on the computer and importing from there, talking to apple for an hour with NO answers except return it and get a new one, which by the way i am on the 3rd one. If you convert all songs with the aac or acc converter, whichever one it is in itunes than the songs work, but for me to have to go through 8,500 songs to find the ones that dont work will take forever. Also, if I just convert all them it makes doubles of the songs, which means I will have a ton of songs to delete off of itunes. I wouldnt want to delete my original files because what if the converted files wouldnt work in other programs.. so i would have a ton of space taken up on my computer.

Apple was horrible when I called, where I could barely understand the Indian guy. All I was asking was WILL THERE BE A FIX FOR THIS??? or I would take the stupid Ipod and get my $350 back and he had no answer for me.... I hope they fix this soon!!!!!!!!!!

i was a bit discouraged by the posts as well, but i bought it anyway, and the overall feel of the ipod was better than the 30GB 5g, but after a while you find things that could be improved, as i think the ipod is a bit rushed, as it appeared out of nowhere, and every piece of hardware needs development before it is ultimately perfect, so no problems, but more dodgy things like why sometimes a picture doesnt load properly, but with the functions i use most, and photos is defenitely not that, it works great, except for some videos that dont go back to menu when finished, but 1 more click on menu doesnt bother me too much

Well, most things work ok for me. The "if you play games your ratings/playcounts don't sync correctly"-bug disturbs me a lot, and I think menu and thumbwheel speed as well as the sorting of videos/tv shows and music (a...z and then 0..9?) could be improved a little. but it's nothing big, really. also one of my movies has the strange behaviour to go back to the menu after about half an hour of playing, but I use my iPod for music 95% of the time and it does that really well (as long as you set up a good EQ for every artist in iTunes. without a good EQ setting it sounds horrible (and btw: the EQs are named a little strange, don't let it fool you. for example "classical" works best for most eminem songs in my opinion :D))

but in the end, I'm happy with the classic, I just hope there will be a firmware update soon that fixes some disturbing issues and improves speed.

no" i have no probs only whenplaying the game vortex , lots of track wheel motion,"but i dont know if its because i had my fingerprints removed through (a) working them to the bone so i can afford an ipod 160 amongst everything else apple, or(b) when i was considering
joining an international security syndickate.& had to be untraceable part of that was not leaving your dabs on things like ipods,
slow track wheel some one else said some firmwear could resolve that?

OK.... Who hasnt got problems with the new classic ?.................
