MacBook 2Ghz, Os X 10.5.1- same problem with both the 'unable to calibrate' and 'burn failed error-code-0x80020022' dialogues. Will not burn data to (a variety of) CDs. Actually when I was in 10.4 it couldn't 'see' Memorex disks (I had to use disk utility or a hard reset to eject}, but burnt crappy 50-to- a-spindle CDs. Now it seems to see CDs and tries to burn, but fails with the above dialogues. However I've just burned an 86mb file - desperately needed - to a 4.75 DVD. Obviously not a hardware problem then!
Let's have that 10.5.2 fix.

Well misery certainly appreciates company - I thought it was just my problem!

Here's 2 things I can add to the discussion:

1) I only have the problem when attempting to burn a playlist that includes iTunes purchases - that is, Protected AAC files, or Apple MP4s. When I uncheck those items from the playlist, I can burn without trouble.

2) For a workaround, I tried burning the playlist (6 songs - 3 from the iTunes store and 3 that I'd imported from CD's) as a Data Disc. That worked. Then I took that disc to my wife's laptop (2004 Dual USB iBook, 1 GHz G4 PowerPC), also running iTunes 7.5 and OSX 10.5.1. Here I was able to import the files from the disc (one at a time - not as you would an audio CD), create a new playlist with the same 6 songs, and burn that playlist as an audio CD.

Big pain, though, in any case. Took me about 80 minutes and 8 discs to do something that should have taken 8 and 1. And I'm lucky enough to have a 2nd computer at home. Come on, dear Apple!

It is both good and bad to see that I am not alone on this issue. This is driving me crazy. 95% of the time, I cannot burn to CD's nor DVD's. The other 5% of the time seems to be at chance!

Why is this still going on? I have had this problem on both an Intel Mac Mini and an older PowerPC G4 tower since sometime last year. As I don't burn many discs, I put off finding a solution to it until now. This is very frustrating and Apple needs to do something about it.

Initially, I figure my drive in the Mini was going back, but then my G4 would do the same thing, now I find this forum and many others like it on the matter. I now know, it isn't the hardware.

Someone.......A FIX PLEASE!

I have been having this problem for well over six months now. I have set my burn speed low, and it's a 50-50 chance whether the CD burns or not. When it doesn't burn, I get the "medium write error" message. I can record data CDs with no problem. And I don't believe it's the quality of CDs I use, because I use the same kind every time I try, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm running iTunes version 7.6.2.

With all the threads on this topic in the Discussion Board, it's obviously a common problem. It is frustrating that there are no fixes or suggestions for this from Apple.

I too am having burning issues both with the internal drive and a brand new external one. I bought the external because I could not burn DVD's with the internal and that solved the DVD issue, however the external will not burn Cd's through itunes. Toast will burn CD's but not itunes. This is a itunes and or OS X issue and apple needs to get it fixed.

I just started having this problem with the last iTunes update. Before that update though, the last few CDs I burned were of really poor quality. I have to turn my stereo volume WAY up to even be able to hear it, and the others sound like I am listing to them on a really bad radio frequency.

When I accepted the latest update, I went through several CDs and got the medium write error message each time. I got more expensive CDs, and though a few of them got all the way through the burn, they don't play in anything but iTunes. I discovered that fact today. I only got through half of one of my CDs before the bad radio sound started up again.

Apple, please fix this problem -- if it has been happening this long I don't understand why there hasn't been an update to fix it yet. This problem make it so that I can't play my music in my car because there are no tuner accessories made to work with the iPhone -- which is what I have. I rely on burning CDs from my iTunes to listen to in the car and in my home stereo.

PLEASE FIX THIS GLITCH ALREADY!
