Mighty Mouse: Scroll ball does not scroll down

Hi Rob,

I have the same problem. Mine happened when installed Leopard. Don't know what the problem is but system prefs check out fine. It is the most annoying of issues though isn't it! Lets hope one of those whizzo Apple boffs pick this up and suggest some ideas that don't involve dumping NV-RAM, P-RAM and the like.

I sometimes just unplug it, turn it upside down and roll the ball around with reasonable pressure on a clean sheet of paper. Sometimes it needs doing the next day as well if I haven't covered all of the ball.

Same problem here... but I've got a cordeless bluetooth optical mouse (apple) so unless it is the scroll wheel itself that needs cleaning, the "clean track ball" approach doesn't help. Other suggestions? Seems to have happened after a recent 10.4.x upgrade but not sure exactly when (now using 10.4.11).

Finally an answer that works!
I had a mouse that would not scroll up. Down or side to side worked fine.
I tried cleaning the wheel with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, as this had worked several times before. But it had no effect today. I tried the "lint free soft cloth lightly moistened" trick too, but this did not help, either, even after watching the demonstration video and turning the mouse upside down. But unplugging the mouse, and applying some pressure while rolling the ball upside down on a piece of clean paper is what did the trick! Thank you for saving me from this incredible annoyance!

i am exactly where theRedGoat is. my wireless mighty mouse scroll goes up and side to side only. have replaced the batteries and still does all OTHER functions except scroll down. again, there is no trackball to clean.

I didn't think this would do it and that it was a leopard issue, but it isn't the unplugging and rolling upside down on a piece of paper worked!! sweeeet.
