Changing resolution

Can you change the resolution of a picture in iphoto and if so, how?

Why do you need to change the resolution? It is automatically changed when you select a print size. iPhoto will take the pixels available and squeeze them into the print sized selected. Therefore, the smaller the print the higher the dpi/resolution will be. Here's a very good article on dpi: The Myth of DPI that should shed some light.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Hold up just a second on that response. Sure, I could make the pic a 1x2 print and get the file size down to less than a meg, but that's not the point. What if I want a 10x20 print with extremely low resolution? resizing just isn't the answer. Even more importantly, there isn't a resize small enough to cut down my file size to the point where it can be accepted on one of forums I want to post pics at. So.... again, how do you change the resolution without affect the size (i.e., reduce the number of pixels in the shot)?

Let's try this from a totally different angle. I don't want to change the pic size, but want to change the size of the file. How do I do that?

If I resize the pic as suggested, when it's placed into my profile, it is completely illegible and about the size of a micron. In other words, no viewable. I need a full-size pic that has a very low amount of data. Possible?
