Various questions related to itunes that was not able to see around

well...i will try to be quick and as clear as possible 😀

1) i have a macbook, where i download podcasts and i use it to listen to my collection of music, saved on an external drive....now i have no more space there, so i was thinking to move on external drive so i can access to the podcasts and the other contents from my mac pro and from the macbook; and i wonder: is there a way to do that? because when i moved the files i lost all the info related to the podcasts, so even if i ahve the file on teh computer, the podcast page was telling me that the file was not there and was asking to download it)

2) i have stuff that i bought on itunes, but since i format and reinstalled the OS on my computers, it consider them as different computers, so now i can't move anymore my files because each file was authorized to teh maximum number...is there a way to avoid this issue that, more that protecting the music from thief, is ******* off people that bought the music and videos (i was tempted to buy the mp3 from russian sites and pay them 3 bucks for each album, without protection).

3) informations of the MP3: basically what itunes did, was to rename the files itself, instead of simply create a dir and rename the ID tags of the file, so i have basically lost the author and the song name (was in the name, that now is track_1.mp3 in the unknown artist folder); so just as suggestion...please include an option to overwrite only the ID tags and not touch the filename (like windows media player does).

4) covers: many of the albums that i own, are ripped from my cd's, adn they are not sold on itunes, so i have no cover for them....why Apple does not include a server where the users can upload their covers and album info, so other people can get these info (something like a music database used, again, by WM player) even if they are not sold on itunes? since itunes is a multimedia player, before being a money machine for ipod owners; so i would expect the software more user oriented, isntead of being store oriented (sorry, we don't sell it so is your problem to find the info of the id tag and the cover); otherwise i do not really have a reason to use itunes, since i own a creative player and wmp works just fine...but i need to load parallels every time that i wanna listen music, and that is insane! (i do not want an ipod, since all my files came from pc, and unless DIVX and WMV became supported formats i will not buy an ipod)

If somebody can help me would really appreciate; and if some itunes people can read this would also be great, so you understand that unless you care only about who has an ipod, other people want to use itunes for their files and videos and buy music and other stuff, but they also want to be able to live without dealing with an ipod and with minor flaws in the software 🙂

Thanks!

1) i do not think you can unfortunately

2) I have ran into the same problem in the past, and contacted itunes customer service support who were very efficient in reauthorizing my songs on my current computer!

3) sorry, do not know the answer to that

4) also have the same issue and I did three things: a) in itunes go to Advances/Get Album artwork and sometimes I have had luck as itunes had a copy of the artwork for a particular cd I had not bought on itunes, b) search for images of a particular cd on the internet, then grab that image if I found it and place it in the album artwork space in itunes, c) scan the artwork of a particular cd.

hope the above helps.

Thanks Pascal for the reply.

1) i found a way to trick the itunes: basically you keep the library in one place, then you make a mirrored folder on an external drive (you need to buy a software, since, for reason unknown to the ordinary mortal people, Mac OS does not have sync folders like Windows), in this way, when you add or remove or rate songs, the library on one computer will be updated with the info on the other one, and both will have the same informations.... so you can have the same library on the home computer, at work and on your laptop 🙂

Maybe somebody at itunes will read this and will figure out to implement something like this in the new build, because nobody has one computer and keep the library in one place... not the majority of the people.

2) need to do that

3)thanks anyway 🙂

4) seems that the best solution is to download the artworks using WMP, so you can have also the mp3 tags filled with the right info, then you move on itunes and get teh artworks images that WMP saved and import them into itunes.
In this way you have either the artworks and the id tags that are correct.
