turn off alerts while on phone call

I think it is annoying to have the phone ring or vibrate in my ear when I am on a call.

Is there a way to turn alerts off while on a call?

None that I'm aware of which would defeat the purpose of having an alert.

I didn't post this question to debate if it is a good or bad desire, I just want to know if it can be done.

I personally would be satisfied to look at my screen after the call and see any text alerts that I might have missed while on a phone call.

In the old days of land lines, call waiting used to alert you with a very quick "click" sound. If the iPhone is set to vibrate then the phone will vibrate in your ear which in turn makes it hard to hear a continuing conversation from the other person on the line. To me that is personally annoying.
