I have a 20" iMac and a 15" MacBook Pro, both exhibiting the same problem. Using my D-Link WBR-2310 wireless router, I am constantly losing connectivity over Airport. Every few seconds my Airport status changes from On to Scanning. And while it is scanning, I have no connectivity. This is a real problem for online gaming. In fact I have had to run an ethernet cable across the carpet.
I have tried restarting the computers and the router, re-saving the settings, I have changed the DHCP settings to manual, changed the router out of G-mode, and run the network diagnostic. Nothing has helped. Does anyone have any suggestions before I downgrade back to Tiger?
I am having the exact same problem. When I first reboot my computer I can connect to the internet but then it randomly loses signal and scans for the network. If I open the airport window it displays "scanning" for a few seconds and then switches to "on." But the internet still doesn't work...and if i click on the airport window again it displays "scanning" again and we go through the same thing over and over again. From what I've read on this forum and others, the majority of people who have installed Leopard are having airport issues. I restarted the computer in Safe Mode like Apple suggests but it didn't solve my problem. I'm ****** because I basically just spent $200 to make my computer useless. Apple doesn't seem to be in a hurry to fix this. I have an appointment at the Apple Store tommorow but I'm doubting they have a solution for me.
Well at least I know I'm not alone, or it's not something particular to my setup. I really don't want to re-install Tiger, but I also don't want to have an ethernet cable running across my carpet for months waiting for Apple to fix this.
I should also note that my wife's 15" PowerBook G4 is experiencing the same problem as well. I am in the process of re-installing Tiger on her computer now. Although I have tried a second wireless router and experienced the same problem, I want to entirely rule out Leopard from the equation, even though I am certain I know where the problem lies. I am just given pause by the fact that I don't see the message boards flooded with my exact complaints, although plenty similar.
Sometimes rebooting helps. Sometimes turning the airport off works. Sometimes it prevents me from using the internet entirely. My problem is intermittent, and just started with 10.5.0 & 10.5.1
(along with pages not loading until I hit reload, hanging on cookies for certain sites, and an inability to play youtube videos)
I have the same problem on a brand new MacBook that came pre-installed with Leopard. I also notice my transmit rate fluctuates, sometimes as high as 130, but typically degrades and hovers around 13 (even if I'm sitting next to the access point). I'm using an AirPort Extreme base station and have factory reset it as well as tried lots of various settings for 802.11n only, interference robustness, etc, etc.
Before you downgrade to Tiger, remember NOT to software update to 10.4.11. I first experienced my internet connectivity issues when I did a software update to 10.4.11, then I installed Leopard in hopes that it would fix things.
Same frustrating problem here. After installing 10.5.0 and 10.5.1 I have near constant delays while loading pages in Safari. It's not a DNS server problem as it loads part of the page then hangs about 3/4 of the way through the progress bar (blue bar in address box). I have to hit stop then reload several times. It's doing this constantly as I try to search here for answers.
If I click on the airport icon I always see "Scanning" and occasionally it changes to "On" and the page will load.
I have a DSL modem connected to my Airport Extreme (White Dome) base station. I have an Airport Express also setup as a WDS at IP 10.0.1.232. A Mac Mini and AppleTV are also on the network. DCHP is set to automatic. DNS is set to the numbers provided by my ISP. Nothing else is accessing the internet from my network.
I've tried most of the fixes I've found posted in this forum but nothing seems to work.
I wonder if it's something to do with the Airport Express? I've found when I move my MacBook Pro to another part of my house where I'm in an area with a strong signal from my Airport Extreme Base Station and probably not within range of the Express, the page loading problem seems to go away.
Update: This seems to be a problem with Airport scanning between two signals. I have no other WiFi signals near my house other than the Airport Extreme and the Express. My Mini is in a room close to the AEB and probably can't see the AX signal (at least I don't think so). It doesn't have the page loading problem, but it's a non-intel Mini running 10.5.1.
The MacBook Pro is within range of both the AX and AEB when this problem occurs. Moving it to the back of the house away from the AX seems to cure this scanning problem.
I have the same problem at home. I can see up to six other networks from my Airport menu at any given time. Is there a way to tell Airport to ignore other networks once it's created a connection to a preferred network? It seems like that would solve the problem.
Mine's doing the same, but it has only started since I changed router yesterday, not since installing Leopard. Leopard connected to the 'net wirelessly via a Linksys router without any trouble for the past few weeks. Now I have a Netgear router I get this scanning constantly - very rare connections, and when it does connect the constant scanning causes very slow connection speed, time outs, failed downloads, etc.
The Netgear router has my connection details stored in it via the ISP (Sky Broadband) so I can't just switch back to the linksys and see if that gets rid of the problem.
I reinstalled Tiger on my wife's PowerBook G4, and it is now running without any disconnects. The wifi performance is flawless. I think I may just have to re-install Tiger on my main computer and keep Leopard on my MacBook Pro so I can keep testing to see if and when the problem is resolved. At this point, Leopard's wifi implementation, for me at least, is practically unusable.
I've been having this issue since DAY ONE when I bought and installed Leopard 10.5 ... Any fix for this yet? I even downloaded the 10.5.1 upgrade and no go.. same issue.. Has any called AppleCare on this yet?
I think my AirPort says "Scanning..." more often than it says on. I truly do not understand it, as I have a Wireless Access Point less than 8 feet away, so my signal is always 90%+.
It's frustrating because sometimes it's as if I am not contacted to my network... a true nuisance.
Has anyone found a solution yet, or what is causing the problem???
