How do I export Keynote file to Powerpoint as ".ppt" rather than ".pps"?

Greetings,

have not been able to export from Keynote4.0.1 (OSX 10.4.10)
to Powerpoint .ppt format, only to .pps

is there a setting somewhere in preferences?
when i try to change the file name suffix to .ppt it still appends to .pps

any clues or advice?

need to export as .ppt file for use in another app. (Impatica)

thanx in advance for any help!

greetings,

-- have found solution!

-- depends on the nature of the initial PowerPoint file, whether imported to Keynote as .ppt or .pps (embedded or linked media)

-- have been importing/exporting between Keynote & PP to refine the presentation for best cross-platform delivery as part of my edit process. as other have stated, on this discussion forum--there are a number of incompatibilities, when re-exporting your beautiful content rich Keynote presentation back to the MS PP format.

-- it is best to be selective with your template choices & linked/embedded media files while working in Keynote... if you have high expectations for playback in MS PP you'll be disappointed. export to a QT movie for an excellent rendering of effects (not to mention, addtl. editing capabilities in QT Pro) & hope the end user has a plugin! much better than a less pleasing MS PP playback.

welcome other solutions/experiences here; please.

thanx,
MeanPony

Has this solutions worked on a Windows Platform with QuickTime and showing the presentation through a Projector. I know Mac works fine, but does the user input like clicking to advance to the next slide work on the Windows QuickTime using an external device to do the clicking/advancing.

If exporting to QuickTime to work on both Mac/Windows machines would the Dimensions be 1024x768 as most projectors use 1024x768 aspect ratio, or 640x480 which seems to be the way to go when viewing a video through a computer or Projector.

I have a very important corporate presentation I need to get done by Friday and I'm not happy at all with PowerPoint 2004, so I'm looking into using Keynote 3 (which I have) or upgrading to Keynote '08, and making the presentation a QuickTime movie which will be presented on a Windows machine.

I thank you all in advance, and hope to hear from someone with knowledge about these questions.

Thank you,

Micdim

Simply export your Keynote to PowerPoint format (it will save it as a .pps filetype). Then, in the Finder, click on the file as if you were renaming it and simply replace the .pps with a .ppt extension. You will be asked if you are sure that you want to change the extension; agree to use the .ppt extension. There you go!

Another trick is that if you do export it to a .pps file and send it to someone, that person must go into PowerPoint and go to File>Open and select the file -- it will the open in PowerPoint so that you may edit it. If you just click on the .pps file in Windows, it automatically plays the slideshow.

I don't know why this is the case with Keynote 4.0.1, but it is what it is.
