After installing leopard on my iMac - it wouldn't burn CD or DVD at all - the message came up and said repeatedly:
"This disc could not be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new, blank disc. (Error code 0x80020063)
I looked up into my system profile - I'm using right CD and DVD media, I wasted 1 pack of 50 CD, I threw it all thinking it was not good brand name. (sigh)
I have the same problem and have not been able to fix it. I performed and "archive and install" but that didn't help.
Using the Finder, I get the following error message:
Burning the disc failed because an unexpected error occured. (Error code 0x8002006E
Using Toast 8, I get the following error messages:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code - 0x0C
WRITE ERROR
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
Sense Code = 0x21, 0x02
BUFFER UNDERRUN
The drive reported an error:

Sense Code = 0x15, 0x02

My iMac, an Intel Core 2 Duo, is just over a year old. I never had any problems burning discs in Tiger. All my software, including the system, is up to date. I am running no other applications during the burn. I don't even touch the keyboard.
I've discovered exactly the same problem using my Intel iMac. I never had this before installing Leopard now it won't burn DVDs. It gives the same error that you have quoted.
For me this is quite a problem 😟
I'd be grateful if someone came up with a solution.
Same problem.
I've tried also using an external drive but nothing.
Nor repairing permits, deleting preferences, re-installing software, resetting nvram ecc..
I'm going crazy...
Other ideas?
Thanx
Andrew
The reply by hilljl1 matches my experience. The problem for me is not the burning of the DVDs but rather the verification of them.
In fact when I try the DVDs they are fine. What I'm doing now is simply checking DVDs I've created very carefully. It is quite a nuisance but at least I know that I can burn DVDs.
My feeling is that it is a bug in Leopard which I hope will be fixed soon.
I have a MBP Core Duo 2GB. and since Leopard, I haven't been able to burn DVDs. Both "Burn Folders" and the "Burn ( ) to Disc..." options doesn't work when using DVD disc. Oddly enough, both those options work when using a CD-R. I've been using TDK since Tiger and haven't had a problem until I switched to Leopard.
I don't get any errors, but the DVD would just make that reading sound then self eject. Please help, this is very frustrating.
i'm having the same problem too, after I installed the 10.5.1 update. I'm having problems using the integrated cd burner, toast 7.1.3, and discblaze. I get errors for everything. normally it will go to around 50%, I'll here the cd spin really fast and then I get the error. I finally got it to work under toast after setting the write speed to x8. not sure why x8 works, but it is pretty bad that instead of a x24 cd burner, leopard is limiting to x8.
I'll chime in on this issue. My list of problems with Leopard gets longer every day. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 2.6 with Leopard factory installed, and can't regress to Tiger, which worked great for me.
Now I can't reliably burn disks. This is worse than when I had a Dell with XP on it. I am beginning to feel thoroughly ripped off. The days of Apple's attention to detail and "solid" operating systems seems to have long passed. The worst part is I can't seem to get a straight answer whether this is a bug which will be addressed in the near future. At least Apple stuff still
looks pretty.
I have the new 20in Aluminum iMac. My problem seems to be that when burning a CD/DVD it gets around 60% done verifying disc then spits it out. I can't figure out why. When I just drag the files to the blank CD icon in Finder it won't verify and finish burning. However, if I do a copy/paste (hold down Command C while dragging files to CD icon) it then burns fine. I can't remember this happening with Tiger, could it be a Leopard issue? Let's hope 10.5.2 fixes this!
I ran into this issue a little while ago. The solution for me was to choose a lower burning speed (i.e. 8x instead of 32x). Works great, all be it a little slower then "normal".
Note: not all media is created equal. Some don't support the high burn speeds that the newer machines can do. And some that say they support it produce coasters or errors if you try to burn at that speed. I guess Leopard probably is a little more picky then Tiger is/was.
