Itunes 7.5 and Vista - can anyone make this work?

So in reading through all the other threads I am curious as to whether anyone has actually gotten itunes 7.5 to work in a Vista system. I have tried removing the program and going back to previous versions all the way to 6.x ... itunes will launch but won't play anything ... and now none of my other media players (windows media player, windows media center, even audio/video streams from youtube or anywhere on the internet for that matter ) will play. What file does itunes 7.5 mess with that causes all these audio problems? I've confirmed that my sound stuff is loaded (checked that it is present and has current drivers loaded under device manager/sound, video, and game controller option) ... anyone have any other ideas? I've spent WAY too much time messing with this but I am going crazy with no audio available.

Gateway, Windows Vista

Believe me, I share in your frustration. I've had an iPod / iTunes that's worked fine with my older XP system. I installed iTunes 7.5 on my new $2,500 Vista laptop and now there's no sound from either iTunes or Media Player. Tried searching lots of forums, Apple and Microsoft support. Didn't find any answers, but did find lots of others with similar frustrations. Assuming Apple can't get me an answer today, I'm going to buy a Zune tomorrow and say adios to Apple, which is too bad because I want to like Apple products. Good luck, please post here if you find any answers and I will do the same.

I have Windows XP and downloaded and removed iTunes 7.5 @ least 5 times. I CALLED APPLE SUPPORT(I use that term loosely). They told me to come to this site (AGAIN). Thank you for the great service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not understand why this problem doesn't get resolved.

Again, you'll need to go here and download 7.4.2:

Make sure you completely uninstall quicktime and itunes before you attempt to install this previous version. This will solve your problems. I was also ridiculously frustrated with this situation, and now that I found the fix, I'm trying to spread the fix through the forum like crazy. I consider myself to be pretty technically inclined and this was the biggest pain in the *** I've ever gone through to find the solution.

Good luck!

I may have found a TEMPORARY fix. It will probably have to be redone as needed, when downloading new software etc.

My problem was that the CD would not auto-run from ANY media player, including iTunes. I tried a multitude of things. It seemed that iTunes and the CD auto-run were fine until I installed Office 2007, then it stopped. It MAY have been due to a restart instead of the actual Office 2007 install, but I'm not certain, because after 2007 install I reloaded iTunes, and it worked until I restarted it. However, after deleting the filter(s) in the registry, the CD auto-ran fine, even after restart. I did get a message saying iTunes files were missing, and that I needed to reinstall iTunes, but so far I have not done so.

Hope this helps, but more than anything I hope Apple reads these forums and realizes they have an unresolved problem that's making a lot of folks very angry! I spent several hours yesterday, and a couple of hours this morning, searching for a permanent fix, but this was the best I could come up with.

I found that after itunes7.5 install that my CD player worked. After turning on the computer the next day the F:\ drive for the CD was absent. Windows said the driver was installed but that the program wasn't working (code 10). I uninstalled itunes and rebooted then it reappeared and worked OK. Installed itunes again and same thing after reboot. At this point, I install itunes to sync and then uninstall to use the CD to rip and burn.

I don't know enough about registries to delete items. Does anybody know if the problem is itunes or quicktime or windows vista?

Hope that Apple and Microsoft work this bug out soon.

First my iPod, when plugged into the USB port, my computer kept saying that nothing was there, when i tried to upgrade my iTunes to 7.5 version, it wouldnt let me, my computer kept reading Invalid Drive: F:/, i had to use someone elses computer to make a copy of the 7.5 version on to a disk, then i was able to uploaded and run it to my computer. The second part of this trick, was having to get iTunes and my own computer to recognize that my iPod was in the USB connection, finally once i upgraded to 7.5, as soon as i plugged in my iPod into the computer, iTunes recognized it, i quickly went straight to Restore Ipod, turns out that my iPod had a "BUG" thats why the invalid F drive was showing up, thats why i could not upgrade to 7.5, and how a bug got into my ipod sense everything i have ever downloaded and uploaded has been off of Apple.s website, they assure that their songs are infected free, but i beg to differ since it took 4 years for my iPod (which was a week ago) to actually have a serious problem.
