error -2096

I tried to open iTunes one day after having turned my computer off, and got the message:

"Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).
Quicktime is require to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes."

I reinstalled iTunes 4 or 5 times, then uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime twice, and nothing changed. Then iTunes support told me to go to the "properties" icon of Quicktime and click on the compatability tab, but there was no compatability tab!

I am wildly frustrated and desperate right now, PLEASE HELP!!
