Canon S820 Printer Driver Update Method

As a recent “switcher” (my last Apple was a //c) I am for the most part happy with my new macbook and os 10.5.1; however, printing is somewhat convoluted right now. I have a Canon S820 connected to a Dell laptop that I can access over my network with no problem. The original driver supplied with 10.5 -- Gutenprint 5.1.3 --- works fine, but has no paper quality, ink quality, etc. selections. I downloaded a new driver supplied by Canon that is 10.5 compatible, and did installed it. When I tried to change the new Canon S820 driver for the installed Gutenprint driver, the new Canon driver does not show up. I un-installed the printer and the driver from the printer library and re-installed the new Canon driver. Same results .... no “Canon” driver for the S820 shows up. Any help on what I am doing wrong would be appreciated. Right now I print to PDF, send that to the Dell and print from the Dell to get high quality printing when I really need it. ---- No fun!
