iPhone Gmail IMAP and Document Attachments

Hi, first post....

I've recently set up my iPhone's mail app for Gmail IMAP which is great apart from the fact that Word.doc attachments now appear inline with the text of the email complete with lots of garbled letters and numbers, rather than as the neat attachments I received when using Gmail with POP. Strange because it seems to work OK for photos.
I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this issue, whether this is a feature of the way IMAP works, or whether there is some setting in Gmail or in mail on the iPhone that I am overlooking which might solve the issue.

Any help would wonderful

We have the same issue. If I forward a file from a Tiger machine running Mail to a gmail a/c- when it is received on the iphone it doesnt display the attached doc file as an attachment but rather inline with garbled information. If we do the same test from a machine running Leopard, the message arrives on the iphone perfectly with an attachment. Where does the problem lie? With OSX.4 or gMail or iPhone?

So do I, messages with attachments fetched via IMAP from my gmail account in Mail contain the plain message text and directly below it looks like someone just pasted the contents of the attached file. For text files thats only inconvenient, but binary files become inaccessible via Mail.

Here's an example showing what an attached PDF file looks like:

Kind regards

Seems to be a bug in Mail, as the attachment is accessible for other recipients and also in gmail using their web-interface.
