I got a Apple Universal Dock when i got my iPod Touch and i have noticed that when i listen to music from it that it is very quiet almost as quiet as if i had my iPod turned halfway down. But it is all the way up can someone help me because i am very disapointed.
Same thing. I connected my touch directly to the Stereo and it was only half way up and was loud! Then when it sits in the dock and the dock is connected to the stereo it really hard to hear and i need to crank the touches volume to the max. Thats why i have my dock for the pc and also connected to speakers. But use my new Portable Logitec station that pumps clearer and more powerful sound.
I was wondering if that waqs a problem and if you could update your dock by connecting it to the computer somehow because i am really disapointed in it.
1) The port on the back of the dock is a "line out" port, not a headphone port. If you're listening with headphones, that would explain the lower volume level. Line out is designed to be connected to a device with an amplifier.
2) When I dock my iPod Touch I get s symbol on its screen similar to the Mac's volume indication - this indicates that the volume output by the dock is independent of the volume output from the device itself.
As per my reply to OP, the port on the iPod is a headphone port and thus pre-amplified. The port on the dock is a line out port and thus expects the receiver to do all the amplifiying. With a decent amplifier (i.e. in your stereo) you'll get better quality sound as it will only be amplified once.
I have had this same problem with a Belkin TuneCast for my car and an Emerson Research desktop stereo at work. Both are, obviously, docking devices. I'd like to buy the Bose SoundDock for at home but don't want to spend the $300 on it if I am going to have the same problem!
i am thinking of buying the apple universal dock to connect it to my tv but i was wandering if it included the cable to connect it to a television and hi-fi etc.
I share the woes of many here who use the new Apple Universal Dock. I just got the dock and Apple component cables today, hooked them up to my widescreen TV and stereo system and tried using my new gear with the supplied remote. I played my MTVs in my Classic 80 and was getting poor video quality (480p). The sound generated was awfully faint and as experienced by most in this forum, the volume would not crank up. It took me 2 hours repeating the startup process prescribed by the manuals but still got the same crappy deal.
I bought the dock and cables because my Onkyo dock could not play the Classic's video. I understand from this forum that this issue has not been resolved and I believe only Apple could resolve it.
