desktop does not show hard drive...

neither does the sidebar.
i did the usual things that any mac user would usually do
finder> preference > sidebar > hard drives on

well
it does noting
i did multiple restarts, 3 disk utility checks
and other things that the apple support agents told me to do
no help what so ever. i did do a terminal command that shows
hidden files such as the .ds_Store files. when pressed my computer
under the devised tab all i get is network
i dont see my hard drive
so i made it show hidden files, and not to my surprise...my hard drive was
also that faded kind of file like the .ds_store files. i can press get info
i can make an alias of it, but its just not the same.
i also made it show the path of the computer to get to my harddrive.
i do not use my home folder. just the hdd.

i just updated to 10.5.1 and this occurred
anyone else experienced this?

macbook 2.16 ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

i decided to just not have to deal with any of the
indian decent apple care help people and just do
a delete and install of it. it worked.
but i am still like...scared to do 10.5.1 again becasue after the
restart for it, it did that.

and those terminal commands...really simple.
i dont think you should post little things like
that to try and reslove an issue like mine.
i really hope apple does a better release with 10.5.2
and ADDRESS this issue.
i called apple about it and they said that it was happening to some people
with that update.
i suggest people just wait till 10.5.2 to avoid having the same problem as me.

Thanks for the feedback. Get a bootable, external HD, and make a bootable backup/clone before upgrading/updating and ensure that works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall anything. Then, you can apply the 10.5.1 update without worry's. Peruse these for details:

BTW, since I didn't post any Terminal commands, I'll ignore the comment.

I am having the same problem.

It started out of the "blue", although could have been when I upgraded to 10.5.1.

Mac Mini G4.

The internal drive is not partitioned.
The drive does not show up in the side bar of a finder window.
It does not show up on the desk top.
Repaired permissions (shouldn't and didn't make a difference).

Somehow I created an alias to the drive which I have on the desktop, but this is otherwise a bit weird.

It shows up in the path bar at the bottom of a finder window.

Not critical, but annoying..
