iPhone making random calls

My son and I both have iPhones. He got his on day 1, i got mine 2 weeks ago. Today while he was sitting right next to me, his phone called me three times without him dialing or doing anything. Twice it rang with his set ringtone; the third time was the default ring set on my phone.

Then when reviewing my call history today, I saw that my phone had made a call to someone in my contact list, but I didn't make the call. The party heard me in the background, said he talked but I didn't respond. At the time the call was made, the phone was in the console in my car. Nobody touched it.

Anyone else experiencing this or do I just have some ghosts hanging around playing with my head??

My iPhone was doing that same sort of thing last night. My friend, who has a Motorola phone, and I were driving back home and his phone starts ringing and I hear it and immediately my phone started ringing. We were both like "WOAH! Our phones are ringing at the same time!" Then at the same time we checked our phones and mine said Greg was calling me and Greg's said I was calling him! We both answered and could hear each other talking and got a little freaked out. Then, about fifteen minutes later my phone rings and its a call from Dmitri. I answered and he told me that his phone was saying that I had called him. I reset the phone. A couple minutes later it did the same thing to another contact!

So basically, my phone is locked, in my pocket, and it calls someone but says they're calling me. What should I do?

(sorry for the long and some what confusing post)

Uh oh, I keep calling people w/o knowing. Usually right after I have talked to them my phone will call them. This is embarrassing to say the least. Especially since I have a habit of talking to my self while im in my car. Yesterday I heard this little voice in my cell phone saying hello! Hello! then when I picked it up one of my emplyees was like...hey you just called me back and I heard you conversation, who were you talking too. And I was like , uh oh, umm I was talking to myself. Now they think I'm crazy, which I'm not , but this phone sure is.

I am not having this problem- +but since I am giving iPhones to my family for X-Mas I am a bit curious.+ Do the calls "register" on your recent calls list?

One poster says their iPhone calls numbers that they have just called, as if a redial was being triggered. Has this been the case for anyone else that has experienced this problem?

Does your phone only make phantom calls to people on your favorites list or does it dial randomly from your full contacts list? Also, do you know if your phone has dialed completely random numbers?

Do these phantom calls show up on your bill? It would really suck if your phone started randomly dialing Bora Bora!

Sorry for the 20 questions, this is kind of an interesting puzzle! I will be watching my recent calls list from X-Mas on!

Both times I got a random call from my wife it did register in her recent call list. One time it was just a couple minutes after we had talked and the other was not. So an accidental redial could of happened on the one but not sure the other. I never thought anything about it until I seen this thread. It may have been just her and the way she uses the IPhone. When I end a conversation I make sure the call ends then press the top standby button before putting it back in the saddle.

My phone called my sister the other day. She called asking if I called her and I said no, she insisted that I did. I checked my call log and sure enough my phone called her. I was in the shower, my phone was on my kitchen counter, nobody was home, it was locked, so it was not something I did.

I thought it was funny though 😀

Edited to add that I have version 1.1.2

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME AND I CAN'T GET ATT ON THE PHONE. MY HUSBAND'S PHONE JUST CALLED OUR HOUSE AND THEN CALLED MY CELL PHONE. IT STARTED AT 3:56 AM. FOR THE RECORD, I TURNED HIS PHONE OFF AND STILL RECEIVED TWO MORE CALLS ON MY CELL PHONE THEN IT STOPPED. HOPEFULLY, IT'S NOT CALLING THE REST OF HIS ADDRESS BOOK NOW.
I CAN'T GET ATT ON THE PHONE AT THIS HOUR SO THIS IS MOSTLY FOR DOCUMENTATION.

since you're so quick on the draw... dought is spelled doubt for future reference 🙂
the phone calls haven't happened to me for a couple of weeks, but don't doubt us when we say they have. it's forums and alot of people willing to post that bring problems to the forefront. a lab is one thing, but out and about in the world is quite another.

you are welcome for the laugh...hope this affords another. merry christmas!

Where was my predictive text when I needed it? 🙂

Sorry, but this problem is not very plausible to me, especially if the iPhone is locked. I just have a very hard time believing it. I'm not saying the original poster had no problems, or you for that matter, or anybody else, but I believe it has to do with something else, certainly not ghosts, certainly not random dialing. When all kinds of users jump in here and I see they've posted very little, about anything, this also makes me think that all it is is just people trying to cause a panic about the iPhone. I came here, and other places, to research the iPhone BEFORE I purchased it, and if I had believed all the crap I've seen in here about all the so called problems of the iPhone, I never would've purchased it. I'm thankful that I'm not very gullible, and I'm convinced that MOST other people are not as well. I just had to LOL and express those feelings to others here. 🙂

How did my predictive text work this time, okay? 🙂
