Why is there a price difference between the black and white models?

White Macbook 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB Drive: $1374
Black Macbook 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB Drive: $1499

Are there some hidden specs making the black macbook superior to the white model, or what is causing the price difference?

Mac Mini 1.42GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 1GB RAM

Nope..specs are the same. The black plastic just costs more than the white does. This sounds surprising to me because usually white colored products costs more to make because the color white is completely free of contamination.

Okay, that is what I thought it was, but it is ridiculous that it costs $125 more for black plastic than white plastic.

Popularity has a lot to do with it. All companies take advantage of such things and Apple has learned from its iPod sales that black usually outsells white, so it costs more.

The white has a 120 GB hard drive, not 160.

But you can take it up to 160 for $75 more dollars. That puts the price at $1374, which is, as pointed out, $125 less than the black at $1499.

However, that kind of business technique ruins my high thoughts of Apple. It is a shame that they have started price gouging.

Not really price gouging....just supply/demand economics.

The matte black plastic does act a little different then the glossy white...it could be more than just color. But it has nothing to do with what's inside.
