I cannot set up my hotmail account on my iPhone. I go to settings, add account, other, then fill in the blanks. What's the deal with IMAP, POP and Exchange? Can someone walk me through this????
Microsoft does not support an industry standard email account protocol such as POP or IMAP for accessing a free Hotmail account with a non-Microsoft email client.
You can access a Hotmail Plus or paid account as a POP with any email client including the iPhone's email client but not with a free Hotmail account.
Or if you really love your Hotmail account and do not want to bother with totally changing email addresses, you can set up an email account with Yahoo!, Gmail, Mac, etc. and have your messages forwarded there.
I have an MSN account that I have used for years and like to keep the address. To be able to access it on my iPhone, I set it up to forward messages automatically to my Mac. Works like a charm.
Hello I have a tip for accessing hotmail on the iphone. The easy way is go to
the mobile msn.com page and click the hotmail link. I found that since the latest firmware update 1.1.2 that the iphone won't display the regular msn.com or hotmail pages. I've reset and restored my phone a few times to see if it could be fixed, and each time it worked, but in a short time it's like they were blocked from coming up. Since every other page on the net comes up just fine I can only conclude that Apple is somehow configuring the iphone not to display those pages. With the older firmware they displayed just fine each and every time. It makes me mad that Apple is playing this game with us.
I found a thread on the forum yesterday that will link you to hotmail. Register with www.izymail.com. Did it last night. Receive and send both working.
