HP Color Laserjet 2840 Leopard Scanner/Fax Drivers.

Does anyone know if/when HP is going to update the Leopard printer driver for the Color Laserjet 2840? I lost all scanning and faxing functionality when I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard.

Please advise.

Thanks!

I got a response from HP that allowed me to scan again, although its a little cumbersome:

*Scanning Workaround Leopard*

+Open MS Word or any MS Office application.+
+Go to Insert+
+Select Picture+
+Choose From Scanner or Camera+
+It will ask to choose a device, make sure it says HP LaserJet Scanner+
+Follow the steps you would normally use.+
+It should scan the document into the MS application you open.+

After I got it into MSWord, I used Print to save it as a PDF.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried this with my HP Color Laserjet 2840. When I attempt to scan this way, it brings up the scanner dialogue for HP Scan, but the scan button is grayed out so I am unable to scan.

This method works fine for my Brother scanner, however, as does using the Brother scanner software. It is just HP being the lousy company that it is. I wish I had purchased a Brother or Canon color laserjet printer, then I wouldn't even be having this discussion.

another way
HP-jetdirect 170X + HP 3030 // leopard 10.5.1 // mbpro17"

Well,
I use Photoshop / import / hplaserjet -> and it works 😉

-> first it did not, then I did ( something) and it worked.
I first went to firewall -> allow all incoming connections,
then I pushed on the button on the (HPjetdirect170X)
then I could push the scan button on the scan- windows in photoshop.

I tried with other leopard but with no success.

My point is I did Upgrade from 10.4. to leopard, HP 3030 was installed but I installed the HP 3030 software back again.

it did not work on a fresh leopard installation, via photoshop...

so I don't know what made it work, but it works via photoshop for me 😉

I could not agree more. This is ridiculous. I have 3 HP LaserJet 2840's, office home etc. and all have become glorified printers. I do a lot of scanning and emailing of scanned documents and can no longer do this. That's $3500 worth of printers down the drain. I would have expected a more helpful response from HP when I have raised this with them on several occasions, but of course it's not their problem. I have been assured by them that they are working on a revised driver, but they can't give me a time estimate, which in IT terms, it's not a priority at all for them Perhaps it will no longer be a priority of mine to buy HP.

Frustrated and annoyed yet again with technology.

Same here: endless calls from HP callcenter to check whether my problem was solved, but it was not... until they finally said that there is no solution as of yet, and they can't give a time frame for a driver to be released.

I mean, having bought two of those workhorses just for this purpose (scanning and printing) means a lot of $$$ down the drain. Alternative is to downgrade from leopard, but that is so irrational.

A couple of solutions reported on the hp forums.

1. Install HP 8.1 software. Use HPSCAN and open with rosetta option - worked for some but not for me.

2. Lance Livingstone found that if you install the HP 8.1 software and create a manual IP network setting the old HP director and HP scan work.. this worked for me on an Intel iMac, 10.5.1 and networked 2840.

What is the link to that document, did it say that it is supporting the scan option as well? I doubt it. I can't believe, that Apple, our beloved Apple, is so incredibly stupid not to save our investments by ignoring that many of us need to scan using HP hardware.

root# > cp apple_complain.txt hp_complain.txt
root# > mv hp lj2840.app > /dev/null

I bought parallels and XP just to being able to do what I must do. So stupid, so stupid. I used to be an Apple fan.

I thought it was a 'local' i.e. my problem that I couldn't get it to work, but this now seems an error 'by design'.

Who is taking our questions/disappointments on this serious.

Can the moderator/Apple indicate that this is on a list to be resolved by HP or Apple??

Can I claim $$ or better €€ 🙂 for lost functionality that wasn't announced... I thought compatible meant full functionality not only printing....

Greetings from Holland.

p.s. workaround below doesn't work.

I have this printer too, but I havent installed the software for it on my Mac. According to Apple the drivers for the 2840 all in one are included with Leopard? Are these the drivers that are not working or is it old drivers people are having issue with perhaps from doing upgrade install?

I don't want to install the HP driver package for this one printer that may not work anyway.
