hotkey/keyboard shortcut to open trash?

I'm a big fan of hotkeying in apps and using the cmd-tab function to limit the use of my trackpad. One of the only things I haven't figured out (if it is possible) is how to pop up the trash without clicking on the trash icon from the dock. I would like to put the trash in the left side of the finder windows by music, movies, etc. Is there any way to do that, or to open the trash from the finder?

Thanks for any suggestions!!

For the hotkey, I'm not sure how to do this; surely you have already looked into adding this shortcut to the list of hotkeys in the System Preferences?...

Now, the only obstacle to having the trash can on the left of every Finder window is that the folder corresponding to the trash can is hidden. What you can do is create a new Trash folder that is not hidden and that redirects to the hidden trash folder, so that you can view its contents.

To do this, open a Terminal window. Make sure you are in your home directory by typing the command

cd

followed by ENTER. Then type the following command:

ln -s .Trash Trash

followed by ENTER. This will create a new folder called Trash that is a symbolic link to the hidden .Trash folder.

I've tried to change the icon of that new Trash folder to make it look more like the trash, but I haven't been able to...
