Missing Gallery in iPhoto

One of my 15 or so iphotos galleries does not appear in iPhoto (in the left pane) but does appear on the gallery Website. I can see the directory with all the files in it in idisk but iPhoto seems to ignore it. If I try to refresh the web gallery photos by Checking for New Photos, the Web Gallery list in the left nav briefly flashes with the missing gallery but then just as quickly removes it from the list of galleries, like a tease.

How do I get my missing gallery back to iPhoto? The web seems to think it's there and I can verify the files are in fact in the idisk directory.

Thanks for any help...

I have exactly the same issue here, did you manage to find a fix per chance?

The Gallery is not showing up on the left menu in the iPhoto that I created it in any more, but the gallery exists (in prefs, on my .Mac account and online). Same as above, when I choose to check for updates in prefs, it appears for a short time then vanishes again.

I ideally do not want to create another one, as many people are contributing to this one, and I do not want to re-send the URL and email details....

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

I have not yet received an answer to this perplexing problem and Robbie D accurately described more of the symptoms (e.g., the quick flash of the gallery coming up when you try to check for updates). Sounds like a bug to me. Apple: Help????

So, here's a slightly different question, perhaps a workaround: Is there any way to force iphoto to load or "see" a gallery that is in the idisk folder? The gallery clearly exists but for some reason iphoto can't "see" it. Based on the fact that when I do a "check for updates" the gallery flashes quickly on the list, iphoto tries to see the gallery, but like a mirage, it's gone as quickly as it appears.

I just spend an hour going through a card that I have had in my camera for about 18 months. Lots of family events on the card. Finally decided to clean it off. Copied all photos to my Pictures folder. Within the Pictures folder, I put my pictures in sub folders by category. I did not use iPhoto for this, I just did it manually. Then I decided to import the photos into iPhoto after I copied them onto my HD and I erased the camera card. When I started iPhoto I got a message saying it would update my copy of iPhoto and that I could not open old directories... or something like that. I didn't think it mattered, since I did not have any iPhoto directories on this computer, just folders of pictures in the Pictures folder. I've done this before without ever having any sort of problem. After doing the update I went to look for my pictures in the Pictures folder to move them into iPhoto and they were GONE. There was no warning that this was going to happen. They were just erased. WHY? I'm now in the process of using Photo Rescue to get my pictures back off of the card, but I'm pretty miffed. In the 20+ years I've used Apple products, I've never seen Apple software do anything that destructive without being totally clear on what would happen. Really, totally, completely annoyed, disappointed and confused.

Sorry to hear that Sabrina, what a pain! (It's a shame tho that you have posted it here on this thread which was aimed at getting a solution to a specific problem). As lot of people tend to skim the last post to see if they can help, now this thread has gone off-topic I doubt very much that a solution to the original problem will ever arise - @amusliner, thanks for your help, I've decided to give up and erase (stop posting to the web gallery) and create another one. Shame apple don't have the time/willingness to input here.

I was desperate and searched the whole forum and did not see anywhere else to post my issue. And yes, its a bloody shame that Apple has stopped monitoring these forums. Used to be you could get decent help and advice, direct from an Apple tech support rep. Oh well, that's what ProCare is for now, I guess. Planning on stopping by the Apple store this weekend.

Apple never did monitor these forums except to make sure users followed the Terms of Use. These have always been user to user forums. If you need to report problems to Apple use http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. The more reports on a given problem the more likely it will get some priority by the developers.

Did you do a Spotlight search for the photos in the Pictures folder that you put there? Having photos deleted off the HD that were not in the library is highly unusual and may be indicative of other problems.

If you haven't used the memory card since this happened you should download and run MediaRECOVER in demo to see what it tells you it can recover. If it indicates that it can recover your photos you can then make the decision whether to purchase the application or not.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Is there no need to backup Library.iPhoto?

No. It seems that the Library.iPhoto file is somewhat of a leftover from earlier versions. Sort of like our appendix. Every thing is now kept in the iPhoto6.iPhoto dB file. That file will have the library structure encoded in it along with the correct paths the original files. The images are stored in the Originals folder that is in the library package.
