What needs to be rendered, the video or the audio?

Try this: First go to Easy Setup and choose PAL DV. Then create a new Project. Then, capture a clip and drop it into the Untitled Sequence that is created with the new Project. Does it need rendering?

What version of fcp are you using? If 5.... try this. Select one of the clips in the browser, control click and choose make multiclip sequence. This will create a sequence with the clip in it. Does it require rendering? If not, simply delete the clip and use this sequence to edit into.

Did you try what Brian suggested?
That should work!
You could alternatively try to trash your renders and render the project again.
