frequent transitions for interface en1 - network traffic reduction measures

I have the same issue, occasionally. No idea why. It does freeze my Firefox.

Similar problem here. The Airport icon in my menubar will sometimes flicker on and off forever. Heres what Console shows:

Not sure if this will help you, but worked for me. I get/was getting the same message on my home router. Funny on other routers seems to work fine. Drop outs for no apparent reason, but especially after waking from sleep or screen saver...

1. In my router I reserved an IP address for my computer. (For what it's worth, I have a netgear WGR614 - I have WEP enabled.)
2. In network properties on the mac I changed the IP from automatically configuring to manaually entering it. Put in the IP, subnet mask, and router IP manually.
3. Turned off IPV6.
4. In the DNS tab I manually put in my router IP.

Works fine now no issues. If I am travelling or using another wireless access point, I switch the settings in network back to automatic.

Hope this helps. I haven't had a single problem with drop outs since setting this up.

I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router. In Tiger, my computer sometimes would not connect to the router and I had many wifi related problems. Since Leopard, there is only one - HUGE - problem left. Whenever I'm not close to my router and start downloading something, the wifi link disconnects and reconnects almost constantly. It has even become impossible to chat with people through Adium X (a free IM client, I use it for MSN). It gives the same messages in /var/log/system.log and I believe it's a problem that a lot of mac users face. I've been going crazy over this for months. Since I bought my MBP in August 2006, I haven't really had a reliable wifi connection, while other people's laptops would be fine on my home network... In my opinion this is a serious flaw in Apple's products and it's the only thing keeping me from saying that Apple computers are superior to most others... 😉 For everything except the wifi implementation in OS X, I'm glad I switched to the mac 🙂

And now, thanks to jstass idea of using a static IP, it appears to be solved!!! I can't thank you enough and I would suggest Apple engineers to focus on the DHCP part of the Airport driver, since this problem
1) is clearly software related
2) has something to do with using dynamic IP's via DHCP
Mind you though that it doesn't happen when the signal is very strong.

Same problem here. One thing I did that seemed to have an immediate positive effect was changing the NetBOIS name my computer was using.

Just go to network preferences, click advanced, under the "WINS" area....

I'm seeing the same issues here.

Prior to this happening (around when I upgraded to 10.5.2) I was seeing TKIP intrusion detection firing off in system.log on several networks-- the Mac would retaliate by shutting off wireless for a minute or better. The "Genius" at the Mac Store wanted to replace the wireless card, but I wasn't willing to part with the machine for the weeklong backlog they were having when I asked about it. Be interested to see if this problem's been seen by anyone else.
It's also worth mentioning that I have VMware Fusion on this box, which delights in filling the logs with wonderful vmnet messages...

Same problem - not able to contact to internet with a certain router (telewell TW-EA1000) - wired or wireless. Manual IP-address setup solved it. Thank you VERY much for this info. It was driving me crazy, as my PB12 connected to other routers. Very tricky indeed - I would never had guessed the solution.

FYI, I am just adding information and questions to the post...I have not found a solution yet....

Then, of course, "The wireless network appears to have been compromised and will be disabled for about a minute".

In some cases, I can log back in after a few minutes, but once I could no longer log into the network(WPA Enterprise). After messing with it for a while, I finally rebooted and now all is well. I hate rebooting!

I am inside my company firewall...large company with many wireless access points. In certain parts of the building this is very reproducible and in multiple areas, so I don't believe it is a faulty router. I have found a place that allows me to work without getting those messages for most of the day.

Why doesn't the system prompt me to type a password to whatever keychain it is not able to access?

Go to joswr1ght...he has a very detailed explanation of the TKIP MIC failures.

His summary view is that the errors occur as a result of a malicious insider or broken driver(most likely). I agree with the driver theory and believe the issue is probably provoked by the subject of this post, the 'frequent transitions...' as reported by mDNSResponder(used by Bonjour).

My next step is to try and disable bonjour via instructions from this post...

I'm having the same problem, but only with some wireless networks. Others work fine. It's very irritating, I hope a fix is released soon.

Apple can only fix what's their fault, and at least the early posts to this thread reflected what look to be errors in router firmware.

(Hint: If a Mac joining the network causes the router to crash, it's not a Mac OS X bug.)

I would say the opposite is true . . . if all computers are working fine and a mac joins the network and the router crashes the mac is doing something it shouldn't be . . . . especially when it's only leopard macs causing the issue . . .
