how to transfer Outlook files to iMac??

Maybe I havent looked good enough, but cant find an answer to this question... Since this weekend I changed from an IBM PC to iMac. In the Outlook map of my old PC, there are a lot of bussiness-related e-mails (in, sent, removed) that I want to transfer to the iMac. When I backup the Outlook files, a) how and where do I place them in the iMac, and b) - even more important - will I be able to read them with iWorks?

With many thanks for any reply!

Outlook stores all messages inside a proprietary .pst file - the Mail program under OS X cannot read it at all.

The easiest way to transfer messages over is using an IMAP email account (e.g. .mac, but also many others). Copy all mails to folders on the IMAP server - then add the same account to the Mail application on the Mac. Now you can just drag and drop mails from the server to local folders under Mail.

There are also a few tools and scripts that will either import .pst files on the Mac or convert the .pst file to an OS X compliant mbox for the Mac - searching on e.g. Versiontracker will bring up a few. I can recommend http://www.littlemachines.com/ - O2M application, it costs 10 USD, but well worth it.

I've been trying to do this too. I thought I could save my Windows Outlook files (messages, addresses etc.) as a .pst file, transfer that to my new Imac and then import that into Entourage. Doesn't seem to be working. Entourage won't read the .pst files and Help talks about setting up Exchange accounts which I don't really understand. Any ideas?
I wonder, given my old PC is about 7 years old (running Windows Professional 2000) whether the Outlook files might just be too old and not compatible?
Thanks

Hi, Do you have any children who are able to copy email & other details from PC to Mac Address Book?
I paid my daughter to do just that, old cell phone -> Treo 680 (worth every cent)
Do you need the complete emails or just the addy"? - I'm sure you can put All the emails into a folder on your PC desktop & burn onto a CD. The mechanics of reading them should not be to difficult to determine..L
