Unlocked German iPhone not working

So I had the pleasure to give Apple and T-mobile 999 euros for an iPhone. After 30 hours it activates in iTunes but there the glory end.

* I can't call the phone (the hourglass just runs and then the phone jumps out to screensaver)
* I can't open the SMS app after receiving SMS
* I can't open last-calls list
* I can't dial phone numbers in the dial-app.

Are there anybody else who has this problems?

I use an unlocked German iPhone with Swedish carrier SIMs (Telenor and Telia).

Patrik

Just to broaden a list of countries where unlocked German iPhone has the same problems; that is Croatia (all 4 networks there).

I specifically asked the guy in Germany if unlocked iPhone will work on ANY sim card and he said yes. I asked him will I be able to use ALL the functions the same as ppl having locked iPhones and he said yes. I even asked him will I be able to use it right there in the store and he said yes, just to find few minutes later (after I paid via CC) that I need to wait 24 hours to have it unlocked. And after it was unlocked the rest of the sad story unfolded for me as well.

I have been a user of Apple products for years and never felt so frustrated after paying so much money for something that's not working. And this 'official silence' from Apple is just making things worse. It's been 10 days since first cases of this problem appeared and not a single official statement so far.

Hacking the iPhone is not an option I'm considering, I mean the reason why I buy Apple products is I wanna use (working) piece of hardware with some brilliant software inside and have decent support if something goes wrong. In his case, I have none of the above. And that's sad.

If Apple stays silent on the matter and does nothing and my iPhone never works like it's was supposed to, I'm gonna keep it just to remind me not to make same mistake next time.

Yesteray I got the confirmtion from the bugteam at apple, that our problem IS a bug, and not a feature, its known and hey re working on it. That was an official mail from apple:

Oh dear me!!!!

Of course APPLE will say this! They don't want bad press period!

The simple fact of the matter is that this issue has been known and reported on various nameless forums since early after the European launch. There was a work around available less that six days after this launch! Lets just say a further 20 days have passed!

Within a matter of days of iLife 08, iWork 08 and Leopard being released and relatively minor bugs (compared to this one) being identified there was an UPDATE available. If the hackers know how to fix the problem, so does APPLE engineers (or are they getting more credit than they are due)!

The both line is that the iPhone works and functions within the countries where it was intended to work, even with other carrier sim cards. The iphone works in other countries also when a sim card from the countries selling the iphone is used. It does not work in an unreleased country with a sim card uniques to that country. Apple is not rushing an update, because if they were it could have been delivered a day or two after the bug was identified (remember there was a work around at this stage).

One more time: the unlocked Iphone IS ment to work INTERNATIONAL with ALL CARRIERS !!!!!!!!!!
Not only with providers eithin the country where it was released.

Hi,

I got a call from Saturn today, asking me to bring the phone back tomorrow.
What is interesting is, that they only got 2 of the 50 phones back they sold in Austria (mine will be the third).
So either not all iPhones are affected, or the others haven't tried them out yet (Christmas present?).
Anyway, I'll bring mine back tormorrow and buy one that actually works in Austria.

Gerald

You should learn a little bit more before you post such bull.....

Who said the iphone does not work internationally? I know I didn't!

I did say that it works internationally with a SIM from the countries that it is officially releasedin, in other works it ROAMs perfect....

Support for other countries where the iphone is not marketed yet is not provided. If you took the time to read a little more and search you'd understand.

Obviously you can't see Apple is capable of releasing updates for other internationally marked products within days of a bug being identified, but in this case because the iPhone is not market in other countries, they are not rushed. Why don't you try getting a pay as go sim from UK, Germany, France or America (Italy, Canada, China and Japan are also supported in the file structure) and see if it phone works in any other country..... I guarantee it does!

I bought 3 iPhones from Germany. I tried using them in Dubai, UAE and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I am facing the same problem. I have spoken to T-Mobile, Apple Germany, and Apple California. No one was able to help. They got all the information they need and said they will get back to me. I just read on the following link, http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/15712/ that an update is imminent that could offer the solution. Could that be Apple X-Mas gift for all of us, official unlocked iPhone owners. I hope so.

If you have any new information, please let us know.

i got an reply from tmobile germany - they insited that it depends on the genereation of the sim cards. and that there are iphones (unlocked ones) that work in austria. so i went to a tmobile store in austria. they told me that i have the latest version of sim card generation. they also said, they dont know if there is coming a new generation of sim cards.

so isnt that ridicolous?

1. does anyone know somebody who has an unlocked iphone that works with austrian sim cards?
2. what can we do to make our phones work?

Hello guys!

Sorry I've been away for a time. My iPhone has broken and I have had as much problem with getting it to Apple as with this problem we have with non-working SIMs.

T-Mobile and Apple have handled this, with unlocked phones, in a very bad manner. T-mobile does not have informed personel and apple says, talk to T-Mobile.

I really hope that the rumors is true about an upgrade of firmware to 1.1.3 this weekend, that could explain that Apple has not delivered a simple patch to our problem. But if that so, then they should have informed us about that!

My faith for Apple has gone down for this, I'm very sorry for that, because I just switched from PC to Mac this summer and have been really happy since then, until this.

Let's see what happens this weekend, and if we get an update, please post here if our problems goes away. I can't try as my phone is in germany...

Patrik

Hey guys! (and women... if there are any),

first of all, sorry for my statement, using bull **.....
Yes, everyone is annoyed and, to speak for myself, I can't stand to wait for a solution any longer.
36 hours have passed and still no call or mail from apple, and I hate it to read post concerning that our problems occur, because we use sim cards from countries, where the ihpone is not released yet.

Simlock-free is simlock-free. It's legal, sanctioned, so no more discussion about that.

I really hope, that 1.1.3. will provide all those changes and fixes we all need so desperately!
And still: if refuse to jailbreak. Even if that means, that I bought an Ipod touch for 999€...

If there are any news, post them. Also please start to write, if 1.1.3. really works.

I know this post doesn't help anyone except me, but you are the only Iphone family I have, and you know, how it feels to be betrayed.
Don't give up your hope!
