reset software update!

We have Mac OS X 10.4 server installed and runs the software update, and now we have like 3 client machines loaded with leopard while the other machines are having tiger, my concern is that i cant run the software update from the server, i mean the softare updates is not showing the latest updates for leopard. anyways i can solve this issue or do we have to install leopard server ?.
another thing is whenever i launch Software Update in leopard it shows our domain server for software update, is there a way i can reset it or let the software update look for updates from internet not from our server?
thanks

Clients will point to your internal server in one of two ways:
*Managed Clients* which were configured through Workgroup Manager, which you should use to reset this setting, or go into /Applications/Utilities/NetInfo Manager and delete the appropriate key in mcx_cache
*Unmanaged Clients* which have this setting in the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file. You can remove the internal update server from this file using this command on the client:
+sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL+
(Note the .plist extension should not be included in the defaults command)

Hi There.

Another option to look at, is Software Update Enabler, or SUEnabler.

http://www.allocinit.net/apps/suenabler

Very handy for those one-off changes to the software update configuration.
It allows you to specify the URL of your own SU server, or to remove another URL (to restore the default).

If your main OD server is set to "always" push out SU details, then these will over-write your local workstation settings at some point. But SUEnabler is very handy none the less 🙂

Enjoy,
Derek

Hi

A 10.4 Software Update Server will serve Software Updates for 10.4 and 10.5 clients provided these updates are for both platforms, for example an iTunes update will be available for both client versions. Software Updates specific to the Leopard Client Version will be not be pulled from the 10.4 Software Update Server even though the 10.4 Server will mirror and update and store these updates from Apple's Updates Server. You will need 10.5 Server with SUS to update 10.5 clients with specific 10.5 Updates. 10.5 Server will support 10.4 Client updates.

Although specific to 10.4 Server I think these posts still applies in a general way to the Software Update Service:

Hope this helps, Tony
