My powerbook runs hot. When it runs hot, it's slower than molasses. What do you guys do to keep your powerbooks cool??? Do the new macbook pros have this problem?
Powerbook G4,
Mac OS X (10.4.2),
80gb hd, 1.5 gb ram, 128mb vram
A hard surface is good enough, but you can tell by how often and long the fans come on, if you watch a lot of video, do editing, or go to sites using flash excessively. Really depends on how you use it. YMMV.
Two things I've noticed that might help.
First, if you're just doing email/web, set your Energy Saver preference to 'better energy savings'.
Also, I've noticed that when I use the short version of the AC adapter(plugging the box directly into the wall), by PB doesn't seem as warm as when I attach the three prong cord.
if you have more than 1 mac u can use the other mac to store all your files on, it really does help i store all of my music on my macbook pro and it has stopped my pb overheating apart from when charging/playing games!
I have noticed quite a bit of overheating. I see temps of over 145 degrees at times.
Last week I bought 2 diferent cooling pads. A cheapy one with a single fan for my work truck and a nice dual fan Targus with 4 usb ports built in that I use strictly for my desk setup. Seeing temps stay around the 90s and low 100s with the Targus, I am completely sold on the value of cooling pads. The PB internal fans rarely come on now. I have ordered a 3 fan pad for my work truck and use the single fan unit in my family room.
