Unplug headphones - call gone?

Here's the situation: My earplugs are in the phone (not in my ears), phone sits on my desk, rings. I don't want to mess with plugging the buds in my ears to pick up the call, but unplug them to pick it up normally - and the call is terminated. At least that's my experience - can someone confirm that?

The microphone switch on the headset is used as an answer/end button. When you insert or remove the headset, you may short the pins together creating the same effect as if you had pressed the switch.

This could cause the phone to answer or end, or the iPod to play or pause.

It can be a random thing as sometimes you will not short the pins together. It is almost guaranteed to happen if you plug a 3-pin plug or adapter/splitter into the iPhone.

Hope this helps.

My experience with this issue:

1. Unplug headphones while speaking on phone, and call audio is muted without Mute button activated, THEN call automatically disconnects.

2. Dial call without headphones and call is muted without Mute button activiated. Phone call is actually placed, but call audio only works if headphones are then plugged in OR if Speaker button is pressed.

3. Plug in headphones, first song from iPhone starts playing automatically. Unplug and music continues. Plug headphones back in and music stops. Repeat and song picks up from last time played.

Could this be a short in the headphone jack?
