Scrollbar missing in Safari windows

Maybe a week ago, I did an automatic update for my software, which included a safari update. Now whenever I open a pdf in safari and then go back to the previous page, the scroll bar is gone on the right side and I have to open a new window if I want to see the bottom of the page by scrolling. It's getting quite frustrating because I open pdf journal articles constantly and have to keep redoing a search for the articles because I can't go back to my previous search page if I want to access anything on the bottom half. Is anyone else having this problem? I have no clue how to fix it!

I'm using the same version of Safari as you Liz and have no issues (not what you want to hear I know).

Do you know if you are using the Adobe PDF plugin viewer or the built-in one Safari has?

If you're not sure, go to these 2 folder locations:

/Users/YourUsername/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

If there is an AdobePDFViewer.plugin present, drag it onto your Desktop to disable it. Restart Safari to pick up the change.

iBod, I use the reader that is part of Safari, and the plugins were marked with the Netscape logo, but when I dragged them onto the desktop, it did fix the problem! I have no idea why... I don't know if i should discard the plugins or if they are necessary for other things, but Safari seems to be working fine now and Netscape still works to open pdfs (although I don't like using it because it forces you to download the pdf and then view it in a separate window).

This has happened to me as well (after a recent update), but I can't trace it to anything that involves .pdfs - it just seems to happen once in awhile. I'll have a few tabs open in Safari, switch one to a new website (it's happened with slate.com, nytimes.com, etc) and there will be no way to scroll down: the space bar won't scroll it down and the side scrollbar just doesn't appear. Any thoughts would be welcome.
