Install Gnu software

I use MacOs 10.4.11 and want to use some of the Gnu software.
Generally I also want to use shell scripting, but if I try to execute
a script, the answer is, e.g. with the script ls.sh:
-bash: ls.sh: command not found
So, how can I run scripts and how can I install Gnu software?
