Update 1.0.3 is READY for download...

Well,

Just out of habit I clicked on "Update" in iTunes and 1.0.3 is ready.

Be brave. Be bold. I am downloading right now and am eager to see what this current firmware extravaganza has to offer. It should be done shortly, if anything obvious comes from this, I'll post the results. Otherwise, I'll wait till morning and see if anybody else has updated.

My wish for this latest installment? Since my iPod is running pretty well since the 1.0.2, I wish, I wish upon a star:

1. That the search function returns accurate results. So when I search for an album and it says there are 12 tracks, I can open that result and choose from the 12 songs in that album and NOT from the 7,000+ on my iPod that normally show up when I open a result based on an album or artist.

2. Track counts are now accurate while searching in Artist or Album menu

3. Backlight timer issues addressed. Not that big a deal, but still something that should be fixed.

4. Maybe higher volume levels? Raise the max level to 11????

I give up on Cover Flow, so I won't even bring it up...

Good luck y'all, can't wait to see the forums after this baby has hit the streets for a few hours.

OK. Just installed 1.0.3 on my 80GB Classic and no major catastrophes. Thank God.

What can I report? Of the things I mentioned on my wish list, one thing immediately seems to be addressed and that is the track counts are accurate and stay accurate when looking at albums. For example when I open my R.E.M. folder, it mentions 179 tracks. I go into an album and exit it, the track count stays at 179 and does not change.

Backlight timer is fixed. Additionally, they seem to have polished the 'power-up' and 'power-down' on that. It now fades up and fades down when the backlight gets activated or deactivated.

Now the not-so-necessarily-bad news - just not fixed yet news, and its only one thing on my end. Still need to test things further for the nitty gritty:

The Search function is still messed up. I search for 'Paolo Nutini' and his CD came up. I opend it and instead of seeing all the tracks for that selection, the results I got were all of the ALBUMS on my iPod. All 550 or so.

That really about wraps it up.

I am not sure if the volume is louder, seems like it, but, I was using my wife's headphones which I've never used before.

One little surprise, besides the nifty backlight dimming/fading trick. The Click Wheel seems to be a lot more accurate as far as having it stop on the intended target, on the first try. Before I was gently rolling over the while back and forth to get what I wanted. Now, I can control that menu with a lot more ease and accuracy.

So for now, from here, that's about it. I don't want to sing praises and be complaining tomorrow, so I look forward to seeing what everybody else has to say about this, especially those of you with runaway battery and locking problems. If things stay stable, I would say this is definately a step in the right direction.

omg hyperventilating I'm on my way to school, so just a quick post what I found out to have changed in that short amount of time:

1) clicker sounds awful in headphones (ok one bad thing for starters :D)
2) performance issues GONE! wheel fast, menus fast, lyrics/notes load much faster, games load faster, photos much faster, great!
3) my eu-ipod seems to be louder (holy god thank you apple)
4) all seems to sync correct after playing games
5) you can sync SONGS WITH EQ SETTING SET UP IN ITUNES FOR THEM without the ipod going into the endless reboot-loop!

thanks!

The issue with some genre's not playing properly is now fixed with 1.0.3
With 1.0.2 some genres would freeze the iPod and it would say playing 1 of 0 even if there were a couple hundred songs for the genre.
+1

TV Out is still raping customer wallets with 1.0.3
-1 again

The new click is painful to listen to...I hope it gets better as I get used to it. However at first it feels like something is scraping your eardrum.

Custom album artwork does not appear for the entire album on the iPod. The custom added artwork only appears for the specific song in which it was added in iTunes rather than all songs for the same album.

EW! Ew ew ew ew!

I just discovered a HORRIBLE problem that was CREATED with 1.0.3!

When you are adjusting the volume while in playback... the click wheel noise plays rather than just adjusting the volume up or down!

I don't like it! I don't like it one bit! (Give me and option to just play the click wheel on the iPod speaker and I'll be happy.)

Edit:

On second thought... I actually like what they were GOING for with the click with volume... if you are not looking at your iPod and you're in a silent part of the music, you don't know at what volume you set it to, so having an audible click to give you how loud it is makes a lot of sense.

However! The new click sound is painful and unpleasant.

I don't like that they took away the option for iPod Only for click sounds in 1.0.3

Well, I just downloaded it just now. And well I havn't tried much yet, had to re-sync EVERYTHING as I've just changed computer, ugh!!!
But, one thing I have noticed, is on Cover Flow, loads of Album Covers are missing, whereas on iTunes, there not.. I always make sure they've got covers! So that's kinda anoying me.
And I did notice, when it's ending it's sync, it now on the iPod shows a little loading bar, which is ****** nice! Thanks for the Apple, I've been waiting, as I've been getting tired of it just saying: "OK to diconnect" now it has a little %-age bar :D:D

Haha, anyway thats all,
thanks,
Kirk
