1.0.3 :: Share Your Experiences

I'm on my 3rd iPod Classic 160GB & was smart; I left the firmware v1.0fc1 on it that it came with out of the box due to the MANY well known issues we've all experienced with 1.0.2.

Anyways, I just noticed 2 threads talking about the available 1.0.3. It must have been released a few hours ago b/c there's only 2 threads on it.

_*MY QUESTIONS:*_

Before I update to 1.0.3, can someone who has already updated to it please answer the following:

1) Has the battery leaking issue been resolved?

2) Will it play in a speaker docking station now without sleeping when controlled via Remote Control?

3) How was Cover Flow improved / enhanced (least of my worries).

4) Is there more features & activity available for the Calendar & Contacts feature or do they still need to be mostly controlled from your computer?
I ask b/c I'm an iPod addict & also have a iPod Touch 16GB & it's latest update (1.1.2) now allows users to create their own events on their calendar whereas before calendar entries could ONLY be created on a computer.

Please reply if you know any answers to my questions & 'share the knowledge'.

Thanks!

Looking forward to a much better iPod Classic experience with the newly available 1.0.3 update.

I do not see any considerable updates in this firmware version though. After ejecting the ipod, I now get a new screen which says its ok to disconnect you ipod now.Coverflow speed has improved.I think the size of the coverflow images has been reduced.Need to get info from other on this.Navigation speed is improved a little though not much difference. The update exe was about 57MB.I expected lot of improvements. But none seem to be transparent.Update info just says "Bug fixes".Apple should be more open and release the bugs/fixes.I have disconnected/connected my ipod quite a few times now. Some times it just used to hang before.I donot notice it now.Calendars/contacts have yet to be managed from the computer.

All in all, not a transparent update this one. Will update once I use it for a couple of days more.

Bug fixes?! I've got a bug creation ...

Now all my TV Shows are in a random order. I initially thought, "Great, now the shuffle setting effects video too!", but alas, when I turned shuffle off, they were still in the same random order, and I don't mean one show, but all of them.

I have six to ten shows on there, some with multiple seasons, and now they're all over the place. Each file is labled with S0XEXX - Title Here, all of them have the season and episode tags filled, and yet, all of them are now in random order which really BLOWS.

Bux Fix:

When playing some songs, then playing a game, then after playing the game and playing more songs, the iPod would forget that it had played any songs at all and not sync them. This has been fixed. I played a song, played a round of Phase, played another song, then synced. Itunes shows that I played the two songs and playcounts updated.

My TV shows now show correctly in each season. First episode at the top and the last episode is the last of the season.

It seems cover flow has only improved in a sense that more images are read into the cache, so you can scroll longer without the ipod reading from the hard disk. I see no difference in the size or rendering of the images.

However, the album artist field is STILL ignored, resulting in
1. some albums still turning up twice
2. finding Clannad's greatest hits under the cover of Arrested Development GH

Will they ever get it?

You must have skipped 1.0.2

The iPod Classic was engineered by design to have TV Shows listed in their date order, not name at all.
One who downloads TV Shows legit from iTunes would like that; vice versa.

I know it was in 1.0.2, but at least they fixed the Cover Flow to read Compilations and call them "Various Artists".

Or was it that 1.0.2 just put them at the end, but still called them the artist that was first on the album? I forget if it fixed that or not.

Either way, in 1.0.3 they are called Various Artists for the album and not the first artists name.

I can confirm the cover flow images being slightly smaller, which I think helps them load WAY quicker.

Also, and this was something that was bugging me, they finally allow you to remove "Podcasts" from the main menu! That was bugging me so bad before!

(I would uncheck it in the settings, but it was always there anyway!)

Doesn't look like they've fixed the Audiobook issue yet. Anyone else frustrated by that? (Where it lists your audiobooks by their track title names rather than the album name and track numbers, or, an even better idea, artist name, then album name, then track number... some of us actually use those as author, book title, and chapter titles! ...and by some I mean most... and by most I mean even iTunes audiobooks you purchase!)

Unfortunately I don't know about your questions 1 and 2, sorry.

Hi,

So, I checked following for now (which I don't consider fixed, sadly):
- Tetris Game still has no Preview Image like the other games, just a black square
- Contacts are still not showing the correct labels (i.e. Home page changes to labe "Work" on iPod

All the other things seem a lot snappier now.

Have still to check if it is working now correctly with my Apple Hi-Fi...

Cheers,
S.

My first impressions:
1. Loading of large playlists improved in speed

2. Why can't I turn this weird Standby-screen off, or even change the clock to 24h-layout?!
3. The battery runs for 20 hours, so I'd love to trade the BatteryMonitor for a display of the current title.

4. Clicking the menu-button in the playing-screen shows an option to shuffle titles. While playing albums it would be a lot more useful to choose repeat-options. still have to go to preferences for that.

5. "Now playing" still shows no cover

6. Sort albums by year (like in iTunes) not added 😟

I'm pretty disappointed of 1.0.3. Maybe I should lower my expectations for the next time.

edit:
Don't get me wrong, the overall performance is way better. The lyrics-display was improved a lot. Scrolls smooth now and I don't get thrown back to the main screen after a while.
