Having trouble Importing contacts from microsoft outlook.

I have a new MacBook, and I’m trying to get my contacts off of my PC running Microsoft Outlook.

I exported my contacts as a comma separated values file, transferred it to my Mac, and tried to import it into addressbook. This didn’t work. Addressbook brought up the text file import menu, I checked ignore first card clicked ok nothing happened, I clicked the little forward arrow with displays the daisy-I’m-thinking icon (not sure what this is called) and just hangs there.
I’m not sure if I’m going about this the wrong way, but if anyone knows how to get this to work, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am having the same problem. I decided to import my Outlook Contacts data into Apple Numbers, edit it there and then export it to a text/CSV file. Tried to import my CSV file to Contacts, everything looked good, and I was able to view my data to be imported. When I click OK, absolutely nothing happens. When I scroll through the contacts that are to be imported, if I go past the 50th one, Contacts freezes up. The reponses to this question so far (as of 12/30) are not helpful. Thank you.

Ok, may I suggest two paths

First path: from Outlook on your PC, select all your contacts then go to Action>forward as vcard. That I think will generate an email with all the incividual vcards attached. Just send that email to yourself and receive/open it on your mac, the drag and drop the vcards in Address Book.

Second path: download and install Thunderbird on your pc if you don't have it yet, then launch it and choose to import from outlook your address book contacts, just follow the instructions. Once imported in thunderbird, then choose to export, export as LDIF, name the file, then bring that file to your mac. Then in Address Book go to file>import>LDIF... and you should be done.

hope this helps

I downloaded the trial version of Bento, which is a type of database software, and was able to import my MS Outlook contacts (which I had already imported into Numbers and then exported to a text file) into Bento, which automatically updates Address Book. I wanted to check out Bento for another project I am working on, and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to update Address Book. Anyway, something seems to be wrong with the Address Book application. It shouldn't be so hard to import a simple text file.
